Cars can share a lane with a parked car if there's space.
If a motorcyclist is not doing much over the rate of speed then you won't hit him if you check your mirrors and blind spot. And if you do hit him then the fault is the same as if you changed lanes and hit a car in the next lane. And...
It's legal. And it wouldn't be filtering or splitting because you've got your own lane with no moving vehicle in it.
Anyone who gets upset about motorcyclists passing them should take anger management classes. Seriously.
Filtering and splitting is legal/tolerated in most everywhere except Canada and the USA. It's safer to move to the front than to wait and get rear ended. It helps motorcyclists because then we don't overheat. And it wastes less gas since we're not sitting there idling.
Nobody follows every law...
Shell is the only gas station that has ethanol-free. Unfortunately, they don't have an RFID mini tag anymore. Interesting idea to cut the RFID part out...
As others have said, speeding in certain places and not in others is the best strategy. So not on 401, Gardiner, DVP, or any major routes. Plus it's more fun to go fast on back roads.
Keep us posted on what happens (whether you get a new one or the bike is recovered). Almost better to get insurance money at this point thanks to the way they manhandled it.
I pretty much followed the routes at the top. And here are the routes I took back:
Tampa to Richmond Hill, GA http://goo.gl/maps/G9qt
GA to Winston-Salem, NC http://goo.gl/maps/4Njc
NC to Bridgeport, WV http://goo.gl/maps/Q3ZZ
WV to Toronto http://goo.gl/maps/AOgs
I made some modifications on...
I love the looks of both of the bikes. Black S1R or red Panigale would both be good with me. Most would probably choose the Duc over the BMW based on looks alone though.
It just goes to show that hp and torque numbers from the manufacturers aren't particularly useful. With BMW underreporting...
I always find eastbound on the Gardiner not bad at all. Nothing like westbound and nowhere near bad as the 401.
I've gone from South Kingsway to DVP in 15 minutes most mornings.
I brought three pairs of jeans for some reason. I'd have brought just one instead. I'd also just bring my iPhone instead of iPad: it's pretty useless for dealing with digital photos.
I got back from my trip a week ago. What an amazing time! I'd never done a multiple day trip before so it was great.
My final totals:
-$237.13 for 215 litres of gas (avg. $1.10/L for premium)
-fuel efficiency of 4.4 L per 100 km (lowest for a single tank being 3.5 L/100 km and highest 4.8...
I was wondering if the loss of grip was in my head or not. I thought I might be riding harder than when I first got the bike and requesting more traction than before.
Tyres are replaced, anyway. 12,400 km out of sporty M5s (but no track days, about 3 cm of chicken strips on the rear).
