Sounds like the throttle cable is pinched/kinked. Any chance whoever did your service got the cable out of place when they were lowering the tank back in place, I had an `04 same as yours. Put the bike on the center stand, start it and turn the bars lock to lock and see if the revs increase.

I`d take a serious look at the new Suzuki SV-7GX, got a great review from the recent Motorcycle Mojo press launch ride. For 10 Grand or so, looks like a winner. Comfy, light and powerful enough, running on a proven and good handling platform.

Got lucky here in central Ontario...about 3 hours of T-storms.. heavy rain, lots of lightning 5 to 8am or so. Rest of the day was threatening but nothing, sun came out about 5:30pm.
