Chainsaws?

I just bought a plug in Ryobi 18” on sale for half price at HD. Reason for clearance: Slow moving item.

However for me the $90 will be worth doing some root and hedge work. A buddy has a Milwaukee 18 volt and it’s decent on power and battery life but a spare battery is expensive.

A 2000 watt generator is the worlds longest extension cord.

Whatever your largest cut is, just get one bigger than that and you’re set for life so long as you maintain it well.

For branches we have a DeWalt on a post that’s 10-12” only and works good, but only for branches high up.

I have 3 STIHL chainsaws, from a 40 year old 010 with a 12" bar, to a 8 year old MS 271 with a 30" bar. Use to be an Arborist back in the 80's.
Doesn't matter what saw you get, the key is to keep the chain sharp so it cuts through trees like butter.
STIHL make a great file system that I use and really like. Sharpens the tooth and files down the depth gauge.

Good advice here. As long as you own property you will always need a saw once in a while. Trees grow and storms knock them down. Get a small Stihl. It will last forever. I have 2. My 034 is close to 40 years old and runs like new. It has done a LOT of heavy work and never needed repair. Maintenance is a spark plug and maybe a chain every 10 years or so. Keep it sharp!

There's a lot of CGI in that video. Not sure how much is real. If it is functional, I am shocked that they are using a single point laser as it is so bloody dangerous past the intended target. It's much safer if you combine beams so each individual beam doesn't present a huge risk but when they are combined they can get things done (and this only happens at a single point.

Agreed, I think you can get a pruning blade as well. I require something that can get branches higher up other than a manual pole saw. For lower branches I have saws and large sheers.

I may end up there but damned is the upfront cost high. Spurs, harness, safety rope, steel core flip lines x2, rigging hardware, etc adds up quick. You could skip a lot of the safety stuff and get the job done but I value my life so I want some redundancy.

I am slowly acquiring equipment when I can get it at a good price but I have a long way to go. A decent harness alone can push four figures.

I like to do things myself but I also hate heights. I'll happily pay someone else to trim high branches.
