Tim Hortons in Oshawa on Simcoe St. S - drive thru only

Not sure where to post this exactly so posting in this section:

ontario-tim-hortons-stops-customers-inside-safety-staff

So, if you are on a motorcycle, how exactly will you be able to get all those coffees/beverages for you and your buddies at the same time? Walk through the drive-through - ok they have walk up for pick up. but still? Ride your motorcycle with a sidecar? Balance everything? Seriously?

Perhaps this is to decrease the gatherings of motorcyclists etc at that location? They mention for their staff safety but they will likely lose business and people will not want to wait forever at the drive thru line to get their coffee etc if there are other places to go.

Thoughs?

"If you are on a motorcycle" then you are blessed with the ability to travel to one of the seven other Tim Hortons in a 2.5 kilometre radius (literally, I counted)

I used to ride a bicycle through drive throughs. You get funny looks but no big deal. IIRC, many many moons ago, I bought a tray of drinks on a mc. Just balance it on your lap. If you aren't riding like an idiot, it should happily sit there for a short ride.

Apparently a mcdonalds in downtown barrie changed all the lights in the bathrooms to blue to minimize IV drug use in there. You also have to buy something and ask for a key to get in the bathroom.

I remember years ago when I lived in Barrie there was a taco bell that would allow only "walk through" customers through the drive through during summer month after the bars closed.. These were the best lines I have ever waited in that I can barely remember.

Haha. Taco bell in my hometown did that but it a dumber way. They weren't allowed to serve visibly drunk patrons inside. Some of the dumber employees told patrons the loophole of going through the drive-through. Sometimes they would call the cops on drunks going through the drive-through, sometimes not.

Eliminate drive through, state that the issue is safety of staff. Fire said staff as now you don’t need them and it’s only drive through.

Profit?

The BlogTO article says (last paragraph) "The property, like many in Toronto, is being expropriated by Metrolinx and the Province of Ontario for a forthcoming transit project."

While I no doubt there are safety issues, drugs, etc. I know many fast food places that have gone or have gone for a period of time to drive through only due to staffing level issues. Like everywhere, finding (and keeping) staff is difficult these days. Add in safety, shenanigans, and the pending expropriation it is likely the path of least resistance to ride it out to the end.

Drive thru only , eliminate public washrooms which are a huge pain for fast food joints . Or have a walk up counter inside with no seating to cater to pedestrians and cyclists. Probably no drop in sales .

I drove up Simcoe street and past this Tims earlier today. Can't say I'm surprised honestly that this Tims has decided to do this. Hell, another one not that far away just completely closed last year as they got tired of dealing with the homeless - IIRC someone died in the bathroom. The one on Highway 2 west of Ritson will probably be next to make this same decision to either go drive through only, or shutter, as the police are *constantly* there and there's junkies everywhere as well.

The entire south end along Simcoe down to the 401 and up as far as Downtown was like a scene out of the walking dead in spots when I drove by. It's getting pretty bad in that area. Whatever the city is doing isn't working.

As for what to do while riding, yeah, you go to another Timmies where this isn't an issue. I can't possibily imagine why anyone would want to go to this specific location honestly.

Are we all good with the drive thru line backing up into and then blocking the street traffic. Happens in town most mornings.I would be fine with banning the drive thru.
"This food is literally killing people"
"But we could serve it faster with drive thru windows"
"Good call, hadn't thought of that..."

You must be talking about the Timmies in Orillia. Drive thru and counter only. No seats, no washrooms.

Meh, I'm sure there is another Tim's close enough to get your coffee and treats from.

For some reason when I saw this post I thought it was about the one in Port Perry.

BTW that link is broken.

Hamilton now has quite a few drive thru only and some that are now walk in conversions, no seats no washrooms . Sadly parts of the city have a lot of homeless and Tim’s made good warming stations . I don’t need a coffee bad enough to line up in Tims .

I don't need a coffee bad enough to go to Tim's let alone one on Simcoe or pretty well anywhere in the DT Oshawa area.

I refuse to use a drive-through. Hate talking to a box and it just feels so lazy to me. I understand they have a purpose but it isn't my cup of purpose.

In my opinion, Drive throughs should have a reduced/simplified menu to avoid backup's.
You want 6 sandwiches, go inside, you want a small coffee you can choose either drive through or walk in.
Lastly, I think many of these changes are partially a result of corporate greed and laziness but I also suspect it has to do with the declining attitude of customers towards staff, while this is only a small percentage of interactions it has a huge impact overall. Can't hire staff, can't serve food...

Back in the 70's there was a McD at Jane and Falstaff in TO.
They decided to open 24/7, but drive-thru only after 11:00 pm. and no walk-thru.
Across from them are three 40+ story apartments.
People would call the taxi company I worked for to do a 2 block (total) run to McD's.
After we'd got all the drunks home from the bars, business slowed down. Some of the drivers
would cruise thru 3 buildings lobby area, or just park there.

You’d only need one drunken idiot ( or a tweeker) a week to make you close the doors at 11 or 10 . Or 9am. Staffing is bad enough , wrestling drunks gets old fast .
