Just passed my M2X in Aurora and reading this thread made a huge difference. Knowing the route in advance was also a big help and just one less thing to think about.
The route was south on Yonge, Bloomington across, 404 north...
manual and no, i got used to short shifting instantly
two reasons
1) i was pre-conditioned to expect it so i kept it in mind
2) i currently ride a small dual sport so I'm used to a low-rev powerband and shifting early
If the bike suited me better ergonomically I would likely buy one

Torque like a freight train. Pulls in every gear from 2000rpm
Geared well to make use of the powerband. 100km/h in top gear shows about 3000 rpm
