The "Official" Watch Thread and all Things Horological

One of many reasons I'll never buy a Rolex new, other than the fact that their watches (to my eyes) can be neatly divided between boring and ugly. The sub to me is the Stairway to Heaven of watches. Once great, and so groundbreaking it spawned a zillion inferior imitators. But with the passage...

It does. Definitely a Rado signature. It's subtle (doesn't spin, but will rotate with movement), and is supposedly a sign for service if it stops rotating, but I suspect that doesn't really apply to modern watches with newer lubricants. More importantly for me, having the logo recessed like that...

The "Official" Watch Thread and all Things Horological

I suspect the vast majority is unsold inventory, so will inevitably be the less desirable pieces. Almost no divers, maybe a Tissot Seastar and the above mentioned Longines compressor, but not much else...

The "Official" Watch Thread and all Things Horological

Headed over to the Niagara outlet mall yesterday to look for some apparel for our upcoming Italy trip. Agreed to go with the wife because I'd recently read about the Hour Passion shop, and hoped to sneak in a visit. It's a Swatch Group-owned store for selling discount stock of Swatch, Tissot...

    Trailer question

You want 10-15% of the total trailer weight on the tongue. Assuming a 450 lb bike and 450 lb trailer, you want somewhere between 90-135 lbs on the hitch. Less risks sway, especially in windy conditions that may unload the hitch even more. Trailer sway is almost always caused by insufficient...

I thought the SeaSwatch was still just a rumour, complete with some horrible amateur renderings? The above Longines is a stunning watch when not made of plastic, could see them doing a plastic Spirit chrono or Big Eye. The plastic Rolex, though, has to be Swatch just trying to wind people up...

Country Living (septic, well water, etc.) ... who's done it?

The new Type 1 we installed had a few sensors that would set off an alarm on a box mounted to the side of the house (completely with flashing light), though it's been a few years so I can't remember exactly what. Pretty sure it would go off for too high, too low, and excessive flow into the...

Country Living (septic, well water, etc.) ... who's done it?

We lived on an acreage in BC with city water and septic, had lots of neighbours with well water. When we bought, we got a separate septic inspection, but it didn't reveal much. After living with that undersized system from the early '80s for a few years (including navy showers and generally...

Motor Vehicle Sound checks in Toronto (dB)

Can they make sure the ridiculous (and horribly tinny) sound systems that the black chaps crew seems to have taken on as de riguer are included in the tests? Having Back in Black dimed may make the rpm's irrelevant. I didn't think it was possible to make something even more irritating than the...

    Air Canada

The best advertisement for AC is flying literally any of the US airlines. Doesn't matter which, American, Delta, United, they're all awful. And when I used to fly constantly for work, WestJet was far worse as well. More delays, missed connections etc. AC is far from perfect, but it's...

    Brian Wilson RIP

A genuine legend and one of the most influential of all time. His contribution to recording and engineering techniques alone are incredible, but add the songwriting and performing and he's one of the true greats. Pet Sounds is on most top 10 albums of all time for a reason. Time to dig out the...

Good to know. Not fussed about Invicta ownership from a snobbery standpoint, I have been more concerned about junk with a historic name glued to the dial with Glycine because I've never been able to see one in person. Glad to hear it's respectably finished and good value. Will keep my eyes...

Not sure if it'll address your particular issue, but there's some good general info here that might make a good starting point:

    25'th Anniversary....and no plans. :(

All the yolking about hating/loving Hamilton aside, it's a city with a lot of highs and some lows. Most see it from the Skyway, which naturally showcases the most obvious downside, but the industry of Hamilton is a big part of why I love the city so much. Everyone needs steel (especially in this...

How's the finishing? I love how thin the Combat Sub is for a diver, but have been leery about current Glycine because of the Invicta ownership.
