That is an insult. Let's pick this up again in one year.
It may take longer but it will be more visible by then at the least.
The stage is set. What will be the response to the next lg. scale terror attack?
Terror is a religion that cannot be tolerated.
Boots- I think that the day when religion is outlawed entirely is on it's way sooner than most expect. Religion is a very dangerous thing in the wrong hands.
As far as the national anthem I was replying to the comments made in that thread.
As far as religious accommodation I am for riding a motorcycle without a helmet under 60 km per hr., and very strongly against wearing a burka at any time in public let alone photos for government ID.
We can...
I see where you are going and I disagree. Having immigrants come here and want to change our national anthem or cover their face for a driver's license photo is too much too soon and a refusal to assimilate. I don't see how eliminating the requirement to wear a helmet on a motorcycle under a 60...
Certainly not and it is changing rapidly. But there are certain things considered immutable and for most I think the national anthem would be one of those things.
Big difference, one issue is taking away freedom because of one or more religions and one is gaining a freedom which I totally agree with and would like that freedom for myself.
That's a pretty solid reason in my opinion. I don't see where you addressed it but I don't think it matters. We have different opinions and I'm OK with that.
One reason would be the precedent that was set by two other provinces that took up this issue. If no one ever voiced an opinion contrary to a law or custom imagine the world we would live in.
When I just want to run to the store or go to a friends house a few blocks away I really don't want to wear a helmet. On the 401 I want a helmet. I was hoping this exemption if granted for the Sikh's would lead to a possible exemption for all.
I would like to see the helmet laws changed.
I have a number of Sikh friends so I am biased and I like the idea of not being forced to wear a helmet myself. I can't defend their kirpan but it doesn't bother me. Is it fair that they can bring it to school while my kid can't bring a knife, probably not but I do see a difference. I think that...
If it's that easy for them then they should.
I'm going to ask one that I work with.
I know at of them don't even wear turbans, they have bracelets instead.
Why not let them try it for two years?
It works in California so why not Ontario.
I think that a lot of people have a bias against Sikhs because they think that they are coming here and trying to change our laws like some others religious orgs. and other than wearing their turbans that is...
