Watching the series made me read the books. The Slough House book series is really well written and the TV series follows the books more or less to the letter.
Those look like they protrude a fair bit? Decent idea though.
The one thing that bugs me a bit about bikes is that I don’t see much design input for the repair side of things. Every bike I've had has had plastic trim that seems fastened in a way that looks like an afterthought and a jigsaw...
I've always just removed the skid plate to do oil changes before but as I'm now older and crankier I'm more annoyed by the design of this thing. One small change would make things so easy. The underside bolts that secure the skid plate appear to be made of butter with Phillips heads and so...
It’s all good. The garage has been 20 years overdue for a revamp. This just adds a bit more urgency. In the end future oil changes will be straightforward and I'll have more room to fart about in the garage. The only loser is my wallet.
Ordered some 2” Milwaukee jigsaw blades for aluminum. Should have everything I need aside from a tidied garage which will be done after $800 worth of shelves arrive. These oil changes are bloody expensive.
On the plus side, I should be able to deck out a man cave afterwards.
Yellow looks good as it gives me some wiggle room when working. My days of bouncing my 1290 super adventure off babyhead rocks are probably behind me so I'm not too worried. The skid plate is more for deflecting kicked up crap these days.
You have all made my wife's day since I need my...
This is the plate. You can see the oil screen bolt through the largest cut out. Thats what I need to enlarge. Looks like raw aluminum but the description from the KTM powerparts catalogue says "hardened". Poor design as they only needed to change the cut out a little to save some grief.

Hmmm. Thanks for the advice about grinding wheels etc.
I have room to manoeuvre a drill as the hole enlargement I need to make is at the side of the skid plate, not underneath. Between the plate and any bike bits there’s a decent amount of space too so I'm not overly concerned that I'd do...
I want to cut into my skid plate to enlarge a cut out that currently partly covers one oil screen bolt, everything else is accessible with the plate on for an oil change. Taking the skid plate off to remove this one bolt is getting tiresome as it’s fiddly with multiple screws/bolts etc. This...
This fully synthetic Motul stuff is currently on sale in Crappy Tire for $68 for 4L. The equivalent 100% synthetic ester Motul for motorbikes is around $20 more in most places. This is JASO MA wet clutch rated. I believe that means it should be ok in a bike (I’m no expert on oil so do your...
Anyone have any experience with permanent/semi permanent greenhouses? Things like Canopia or Planta with 6-10mm double walled rigid poly panels? We have a cheapie small greenhouse with a plastic cover which is great but always wanted a proper greenhouse that I can put grow lights and a heater...
We plant Brandywine every year, it’s an Amish heirloom variety I think. Big beefsteak style and very tasty. Our favourites recently have been the purple tomatoes like Black Krim because they taste amazing. I got some Chocolate Cherry seeds for this year to try, these are a dark cherry style.
There’s some super early varieties. We are trying a few this year. Early Girl has always been OK but variety is always good to have. Cherry tomatoes ripen early and fruit until late too. It's the big beefsteak ones you need to wait for.
