Are you accessing it from mibbit or another web-based irc site? A few people got that error trying to used mibbit and had to download an irc client. kvirc or mirc will do.

Make sure you're connected to the correct server (DAL). If you're on the wrong server, you're in the wrong #gtam. :)

I recommend mibbit.com for those of you who don't want to download anything and how are having trouble with DALnet's web based irc.
