NewTht.com supermoto parts

I saw an add for custom supermoto wheels on Marketplace, through a Quebec company with a seemingly legit online store (googled, and it seemed legit).

Texted with him through Facebook. Seemed a nice option to support a Canadian company, instead of dealing with Warp9 and U.S. tariffs, or shipping from England with SmPro wheels.

Little did I know, he is a Middleman, putting in orders directly shipped from China...

If I wanted Chinese wheels, I would have bought KKE, or AliExpress...

Pretty sure these are just Ali wheels, with a bump in price, although he claims they aren't... when they look identical.

As far as Im concerned, an omission is the same as lying. Seems pretty shady to me.

As far as I'm concerned, I purchased these from a Quebec company; Canadian taxes paid and everything, only to get duty fees from UPS.

Not sure I have any recourse.

I haven't paid the duty yet. I'd like to tell him to reimburse me and shove these wheels where the Sun don't shine, but not sure what if any options I have at this point.

Opinions welcome, even if its just to tell me I'm screwed.

That sucks. Duty fees from what country of origin? Because of Canadian markup you were over deminis limit? Splitting the bill/shipment should have been done by tht to avoid that kick in the nuts.

Direct shipped from China. That's why I thought it seemed off... I didnt order from China, he did... I ordered from Quebec.

Seemed a dirty move.

He kept making excuses on FB, then stopped responding.

Not sure I have much of any recourse.

Oof, sorry to hear. Did you ask UPS if there's any recourse? Since you bought from a Quebec company and paid Canadian taxes and were never told it would be shipped from outside the coutry, maybe they'll send the bill back to the shipper? Otherwise, what's next, we get dutied on Walmart.ca purchases?

I'm guessing you accepted the package, but they didn't force you to pay the duty on the spot? Can you refuse to pay it and ask them to return to sender? Or worst case, just return it to the seller. Hopefully they're somewhere near Montreal???

Depending on payment method (i hope CC), I would pay the duty (no point challenging that one and you don't want the hassle of UPS no longer shipping to your address), document your refund request to the company, especially with the discrepancy with country of origin. Then do a charge back when they refuse it take it back/refund fully/ghost you.

+1

Were the fees really duty or UPS brokerage fees? IIRC, duty generally has to be paid before delivery.

If it was really duty and Canadian sales taxes were also charged at the time of order, then you've been double-charged taxes. At least you've got a paper trail to try to get a refund on your HST:

Yeah. Newtht charged me $13%. $193.05

Chinese shipper valued the rims at $250... obviously low, then $32.56 gst, again.

The $19.94 in brokerage fees.

Ups

They are 100% identical to the Ali-Express wheels.
