E bikes rampaging Toronto streets

I find it odd that these things are so unregulated. In a country where all levels of government apply regulations to so many things, many of which have such insignificant impact I can't believe that no level of government hasn't grabbed the reins.

I thought the news of injured kids on scooters this summer would prompt some reaction by government but nothing happened.

Generally speaking, in medicine you can't do anything unless it is specifically allowed. In most other things you can do just about anything unless it is specifically banned.

Regulations are worthless unless enforced - hence the problem.

Where are the pedals, zip tied to the frame somewhere ?
The cranks are there. If the pedals are not attached to the cranks, it is not an ebike. No point zip tying them to the frame as there is no possible way to pedal that bike anyway. Stupid Wynnebag.

And more people will be seriously injured by that scooter than the entire collection of firearms JT banned.

Illegal straight out of the box @ Best Buy.

28 MPH in a 24 KPH Province.
On one hand it amazes me that with the bloated bureaucracies at the federal and provincial levels, no Ministry of Transport has stepped in to enforce existing regulations or bans with these products. You'd think at least one of the 13 Ministers of Transport in this country would look at it and see an opportunity for a profile-building press conference.

Then on the other hand I realize that bloated bureaucracies don't exist to serve the public or a purpose, only to be a self-reproducing siloed ecosystem for more bloat and useless/unenforceable/unenforced regulations.

It is not illegal until you use it on a public road. Perfectly legal to run around your backyard on.

I find it amazing that the same government that banned my legally owned firearms under the guide of public safety allows these bikes to rampage anywhere they want without registration or insurance.

I corrected that for you :))

Interesting start but will it scare many e-riders into compliance?

As usual the release is as clear as mud. With no licence required for either the vehicle or rider the roadside procedure will tie up too much police time. What are the police expected to do, throw the bike into the back of the squad car?

What happens to the food delivery?

Simple solution: use the same impounding procedures and tow trucks used for cars.

If the dirtbag rider refuses to identify themselves to police, getting their unregistered bike back won't be easy.

Unfortunately we have bigger things to worry about now, Muslims and Palestinians protesting when the feel like, police won't do shi$ about that, ya think there gona bust you because your on a e bike lol lol lol..good luck with that 😉

E-bikes are low hanging fruit for the cops. Nobody is gonna crap on them for cracking down. Unlike the protestors, ebikes don't have proponents/defenders inside or outside of government at multiple levels.

I expect the impounding action though to be a gong show. A few years ago I saw the cops in Cobourg pull over a drunk on his ebike. There were 3 cop cars, 6 cops and a flatbed tow vehicle with this ebike strapped to the deck.

It looked ridiculous. For crying out loud, 2 cops could have had the guy in the back of the car and loaded the scooter in the trunk of the cruiser. The could also have used the pick up the force owns of course.
