The last demo day I did at GP; I just gave them a copy of my CC, signed my life away, and they said go wherever you want and be back in 30 mins. Bike did go to redline and power wheelies😁
had a similar experience with GP on a multi V4 and a street triple, ended up buying the triumph not long after

I’ve always had the impression that demo bikes tend to live a hard early life. Most of them aren’t even past the break-in period, and you just know a bunch of ham-fisted riders at demo days have been bouncing off the rev limiter (honestly… I probably would too).
The bikes in a Demo Day are not usually a dealership's bikes. If it were, it'd be used as it would also be a transfer from the manufacturer to the dealership.

So, the real question is would you buy a Dealer's demo unit and that is going to depend on the dealership and their internal practices. I wouldn't pay new money and I would expect a new bike warranty or better than. Otherwise, just buy new.

I wouldn't buy a demo day unit. It's not just one demo day with those bikes. It's all the demo days, across the country.

Do the dealers ever allow unsupervised demo rides? I thought it was all sedate group runs at or under the limit.

(Excepting the Aprilia track day demo bikes, of course...)
I was offered a few hours on a comparable BMW when I mentioned having a 1500 Goldwing but never took them up on it.

Good point. A dealer demo is different than one from the manufacturer's trailer stable.

Not a demo bike but Yamaha gives their executives bikes for the year and they then return them to a Yamaha dealer. I got one of those bikes from the dealer with 10,000 kms on the odo. Yamaha gave me a 25% discount off retail and full warranty from time I took ownership. Rode the bike for six years with no issues.

Yes, I would. But it better be priced as used
They had two models I liked. One had like "200" kms on it and was $4.5k off, while the other one with "500" kms had a $5k discount.

Just like buying a used bike, but I'd only do it if it included the full warranty, not prorated.
In the case of these two specific bikes, their warranty is prorated.

Two questions:

1) When did they start putting Panigale V4Rs into demo fleets?

2) Can I ride it when you buy it?

thx in advance!
Unfortunately, I don't have a baller status...... yet

🙄 Phew! It's probably a good thing that GP didn't have the demo units I was interested in when I visited. They said either they were on loan or had already been sold.

Bought an 09 hypermotard 1100s from Apex. It was part of the Ducati Canada demo fleet and saw very little street use. Most of it's time was spent at mosport. It needed new tires, sort of.
