My Guzzi has a RBW throttle, never any trouble blipping.

Same on all my bikes.

Easier to blip when higher up in the rev range, but I can compensate for low rpm blips as well, you just have to be cognizant of where you are in the rev range as well as being aware of the larger gap in gear ratios going from 2 to 1.

Miss the days before slipper clutches and MSR, when you had to brake hard into a corner and blip at the same time. The motorcycle equivalent of heel-toe. That has become quite the lost art.

MSR. I had to look that up. Thankfully, both my Guzzi and Thruxton aren't equipped with any such nonsense, and I get to ride 'em the old fashioned way, as you've described. It's always so very satisfying. (y)

Too many electronic aids these days. Unless they buy old school bikes or dirt bikes, new riders will never learn how to develop the fine motor control skills on the clutch, throttle and brakes because the computer is helicopter-parenting your every move.

At least with MSR you can turn it off (on most Adventure bikes). A step up from slipper clutches, which are mechanical and can't be turned off. So you can still back the bike into corners on downshifts like the sumo guys do.

Super fun to do!

Would it be fair to say that MSR is the same thing as an auto blipper?

From what I understand, MSR is the base technology which monitors rear wheel speed and engine revs, and ensuring the two sync up. It's basically an engine braking management system.

MSR is used by the quick-shifter (triggered by clutch lever and shift pedal) to auto-blip/rev-match on downshifts. I believe it's also used to momentarily cut power to the throttle on upshifts and time the revs as the rpms drop to match the new gear.

MSR is also used in conjunction with the traction control system (triggered by the throttle) to manage power if the rear breaks traction, on downshifts or cornering at speed. Different from ABS, which is triggered by the brakes.

Newer bikes can also dial in how much engine braking you get on closed throttle via MSR.
 
Has anyone heard of Aprilia offering demos? Looking to see how the Tuareg compares to the 800DE/T7/F900GS...

I did a demo track day with them at Shannonville a few years ago, but don't think they had a Tuareg available.

I did find this request form on their website:


Make sure you select 'Canada' in the top left, and it'll let you choose a dealership from the two in the GTA (Vos and Studio), Guelph (Two Wheel) and Ottawa (Motor Sports World). No idea what the actual options are, but I know Studio sells demo models occasionally, so they must offer them out...

Studio does offer demos as long as you have your full m license, unsure if they have a tuareg demo though

Maranello BMW in Vaughan this Thur & Friday ... I got an e-mail from them and clicked the 'RSVP' link but nothing back yet from them since yesterday morning.

I'm there Friday.
 
Has anyone attended the GP BMW demo sell off event? Apparently it's happening today till 8pm.... was wondering how steep the discounts are on the models.

I picked up a brand new R18 Classic (traded in the Monster) a couple of weeks ago when they had it listed for $8k off.

Best to go directly to their website to see the discounts as it wasn't showing anywhere else as I recall.

Then you can sell your left hand.

Better yet, get one with radar-guided cruise control with lane assist, wheelie control, traction control, brake control, throttle control, steering control...

Then you can sell the rest of your body. Bike can go for rides without you... 🤪
