What's your time worth?

Is there a bigger waste of time than recycling?

I keep hearing that a huge (80 to 90%) of our recycling material ends up in a garbage dump. So basically, we remove labels, rinse containers and separate things so we can have cleaner garbage at the dump.

Thank you, loser politicians, for signing another deal with the packaging devils.
It may not be as bad as you think - it’s not always going to landfill. Lots of municipalities are incenerating their recyclables, using it as fuel for generating electricity.

Lots of energy in a plastic bottle

It's just another example of the kabuki theatre that governance has become. Creating the appearance of action without the messiness or effort of having to do anything.

Sure, we're recycling all this crap, except the stuff we incinerate (per Mike) and the stuff we can't sell that goes into the landfill.
Plastic bag and straw ban in Canada while the third world spreads them around like dandelion seeds in a summer breeze.
Tanker ban on the BC coast, while 500 million barrels of oil pass by in tankers from Alaska a few nautical miles away.

It would all be laughable if it wasn't so pathetic.

As for banks... the wife had a charge on her CC from one of those companies that won't let you cancel. She got a new card with a new number (banks advice), then a month later the same charge again on her new card... She was fuming the bank put it through. Lots of time on hold with the bank for them to say it needs to go to the fraud team. They said the fraud department will call her at 10PM... 10 comes and goes.... at this point she was ready to just cancel the card and go to a different bank.

Fraud department called at 11PM, the person was really good, actually investigated the company online with my wife. They confirmed it was fraudulent and reversed the charges. Then the kicker is the next day she gets an apology email from said no cancel company...

I have given her crap multiple times, when something is actually free, they don't need your credit card number!

Justin was in his glory days touting paper straws in a photo op. Somewhere on a highway near you was a truckload of plastic throw-away dusting wipers. We use old tee shirts and wash them.

Costco doesn't have straws anymore. Their cup lids have been redesigned as sippy cups.
