Motorcycle Safety Inspection - my experience June 2025

Yeah, I can see that point, but I'm pretty comfortable in that I believe I know the general condition of my bikes vis-a-vis a safety. I'm not one for aftermarket exhausts or flush mount signals etc. so not a concern.

I AM CONCERNED about getting a safety for my Norton Commando. Drum rear brakes combined with an uncommon rear wheel removal/installation setup would be an issue for someone unfamiliar with it. When the time comes I'll bring the manual.
Drum brakes are the hurdle. New cert requires pics showing I.D. measurement of drum and thickness of shoe so they have to come apart.

Inglis will schedule it for 7PM. He does everything until the drum brakes. Then sits back, eats the burger you brought him while you use his tools to get the drum apart. He measures, snaps pics and then you reassemble it. I doubt many shops will work with you like that.

Inglis Cycle in London. Gord Inglis came to give a talk on the new safety process at a CVMG meeting months ago. Their big supporters of vintage bikes. This was his solution to opening old drum brakes w/o being responsible for scratching your new paint/chrome and or needing to know how to remove them from a 1934 Whatzit.

What do they charge for a safety?

Can't recall the cost. I'm fairly certain they would be competitive.

I should probably ad a caveat. This a family run shop. Not sure when they started but 2 brother named Inglis still run it now. They do this because they are passionate about bikes particularly vintage stuff. If you have something nice and ask politely I expect you'll do fine. If you're just trying to cert some beatup drum braked turd for your girl friend to learn on it could be different.

Thanks! Checking rear brake on a CB750 with 4into4 pipes is a pain in the ass, even if you know how to do it.
The aftermarket pipe on my F means no center stand. Do you think having to do chain adjustments with side stand is an even trade?
