@Wind Shear , @fmp and I were having a coffee in Dundas today and a guy on a one wheel rolled down the street. This thing.

I asked if they had seen any of the racing on the mono-wheels. I thought others may like it so here it is......

If I was younger, I think this would be amazing fun. I also think that there are no small crashes and you would take a beating.

They also ain't cheap.....

Anyway.... enjoy the crazy

I shouldn't be surprised that people race them, but I am. That is wild

I have seen one around my neighborhood several times.
I almost want to say that they guy wears more protective gear then me on a real bike.

The craziest thing I have seen is someone on one of these monowheels with an infant strapped to their chest in one of those infant carriers.
Don't care how good you are on the monowheel but that is just irresponsible.

Spend any time downtown Toronto and you will see all kinds of wheeled contraptions. Seen this a few times or variations of it. Last time I saw a guy on a unicycle, on what looked like a fat mountain bike tire.

What a wacky niche sport 🙃 honestly was hoping for some roller derby / road rash tactics over those 12 laps. Would get never know if I'm getting passed until they're parallel.

In my mind, the skateboard style onewheel and high speed monocycles are very different. I've seen both and they both look fun but aren't legal almost anywhere you'd want to ride them.

For clarification we were in Dundas-Hamilton
NOT Dundas Square or whatever it is they want to call it now

What i want to know is, where was the coffee invite???

My fragile ego can’t take any more rejections so I stopped asking.

So the big questions is - if Dundas Square is being renamed to Sankofa Square, will they also rename Dundas Street and district to Sankofa, or will they pick arbitrary names to confuse people further???

So, zipping down the sidewalk and a person walking steps in front of the thing, what is braking distance?

We need to have some form of licencing system for any transportation item with a motor. We can't just pass new laws every time someone invents a new toy and wait years to correct.

Oh yes, no confusion, been to Dundas/Ancaster many times with the bike. Plus who really wants to cruise downtown Toronto, unless you are @bigpoppa ;)

That seems simple enough but politicians are dumb. Instead of writing laws for every niche product, go back to something similar to moped. If it has a motor 500 watts or less, top speed of 32 km/h, weight of 100 lbs or less, it isnt allowed on sidewalks/bike paths under power and requires g1 and a plate that comes with 100k liability insurance. That blanket covers all ebikes, scooters, mononucleosis, one wheels, etc.

LSV probably needs separate category (if they want to keep it) as you can't hit the weight target. Since there is almost zero municipal uptake for lsv, it should probably just disappear and if you want a cage, speed is 10 km/h or less like a mobility scooter).

Dude in my nieghbourhood cruises around daily , he looks pretty talented and sticks to bike lanes and such . He’s outside having fun . And nowhere near the arrogance of the fully Lycra wearing peddle bike douches I deal with daily on Lakeshore .
