That's an interesting article, but I don't see myself in that at all.

Maybe it's because I have the luxury of owning more than one bike, but when I buy a motorcycle, I tend to keep it for a long time.

Most of my riding buddies own a bike for two seasons, on average, then they sell it and buy another one. If I'm not forced to sell anything, I think I'd probably keep everything I've bought until it became financially infeasible from a maintenance standpoint. I reluctantly sold my old GS after it hit 250,000 kms at the 12-year mark after the bills starting adding up. Then I ended up buying a new GS... :D

I wonder if people who own multiple bikes tend to keep them for longer than serial monogamists?

14-15 bikes over 40 years. Had the Honda above for 30 years. It's going nowhere.
Had the Wing for about 6 years and would not have sold but for my hip. The klr's been around 7 years now and I don't intend to sell it any time soon. The rest 2-4 years I would say with the exception of a Katana that my knees didn't agree with and it lasted one ride to work.

Yeah, I've only ever owned one bike that I bought that I immediately knew on the first ride that we weren't destined to be together.

So I crashed it on the track and gave it away... LOL!

There have been other rides that I wasn't overly fond of, but stuck with them for awhile for whatever reason.
 
MYbe some of the problem is that you live in the heart of darkness and are an hour from any decent/fun/chill roads :/

Also a good find.

Difference between the S4R and the S4RS is the Ohlins (AKA Swedish Gold) suspension, if that's important to you. Other than that, you're basically getting the 999 wolf in sheep's clothing.

As someone who's been humbled by a 250 ninja before... I'd have to agree!

Even when I'm the slowest or riding an appliance - I'm still riding like a character!

The Monster 1200S I see was mentioned and is an absolute gem imo and has tons of character. It's comfortable enough to ride all day and I'd happily own one as a second bike. I've ridden the 2021 Tuono with a few laps on the 507 and it's definitely faster but I had more fun on the Monster.
The Ducati Multistrada I had was the character standout in my long list of past rides. Everything was finished superbly, with attention to detail, and the exhaust note from that twin was addictive. Every time I rode it I felt like I was riding something special and it did everything great. My BMW has character in that it's very raw and tries to kill me once in a while (like my KTM dirtbike) but my next bike will be another Ducati.
At the very least take a Monster 1200S out for a test drive. GPBikes in Whitby will oblidge this request.

Had an 06, a pair of 07's, and an 09 with the 09 being my favourite. Raw and fast (mainly the 06 and 09) but not as high on the character scale. Did love that 09 though and wish I still had it in the corner.
