Ever find your old motorcycle for sale again?

theres a million reasons why a deal can fall through

maybe he found a better bike
maybe he got into a fight with his wife
maybe an unexpected expense came up
maybe it was the middle of jan and he couldnt find transport

take your pick.

Alas I've both dated and applied for jobs in the modern age so im used to ghosting and flakes and have developed a thicker skin
Sorting thru dozens of replies with lowball offers or dumb questions isn't most people's idea of fun.

He was wasting the guys time. It's crap.
I wasn't wasting his time bro. I really wanted my old bike back but when it came time to close the deal he said he has someone who wants to pay him close to his original asking which was $1000 more than what I had sold it for. I couldn't justify paying more than I sold it to him for. So the deal didn't go through. Reserve your judgements until you know the complete story my man. My apologies for not explaining it in full but I thought the OP's question was whether you ever saw your old bike on sale again, and not whether you bought it and brought it home. Lol.

FYI, I have been on Kijiji and ebay for 13 years and have a 5 star rating after hundreds of transactions.

It has happened to me twice believe it or not. Once I saw my 2011 Kawasaki ZX14 for sale on Kijiji 6 months after I sold it. The guy listed for $1000 more than he paid. I actually contacted him and negotiated the deal at $500 lower than what I had sold it for. I never closed the deal but it was very exciting. He never realized that I was the original owner.

Second time I saw my Royal Enfield 500 on Kijiji after 2 years. Same kinda experience. Lol. It is a bit weird seeing your old bike on Sale.

Just out of curiosity, did you want your old bike back out of emotional attachment, or was this one still priced better than other ZX14s on the market?

Personally, if I sold a bike to someone, I wouldn't want it back, not knowing how it had been ridden and maintained. Unless I knew the owner very well and they took care of it as well as I did.

I guess you don't want the F4 back :)

LOL! You took care of it much better than I did...

But no, I never fell in love with that bike. Seems like you don't ride it as much as your other ones.

IMO, that bike works better mounted on a wall than it does being ridden...
You are right, it is not a good bike to ride but great to look at.

It was my first bike after I waited to get one for like 8 years. So yea, it was a bit of emotional attachment. The guy I sold it to barely rode it. He had a workshop and he parked it inside as a decoration piece. Based on your logic, you could never buy a used bike, not knowing how the previous owner might have ridden it.

I mainly buy bikes brand new, but if there's a specific model that isn't made anymore, I'll do my due diligence.

For example, if I really wanted to buy back the bike I sold to @veteq, I'd do it in a heartbeat. That guy is fastidious about taking care of his stuff. The bike is in waaaay better condition than when I sold it to him... :D

There was another bike I bought where the owner was a very active member of the Internet forum. Over time, he had posted all the mods, maintenance and riding history of the bike, it was all very well documented. And well-priced as well. So much so, that there was a bit of a race to scoop up this bike, and I beat out the next guy, another forum member, by 2 hours.

Also I've bought very low mileage bikes, ~1-2000 kms on the odometer. For those, I figure, "How much damage could have been done in that time?" And if it's priced right, then why not? One bike, which was heavily modified with all thousands of $$$ of mods we would have done ourselves, went for half of the base MSRP. It had 2500 kms on the odo! It was basically brand new. That was a literally a steal. We doubled the mileage within the first week!

But if I'm planning to keep a bike long-term, then I'd prefer to buy it brand new so I know the complete history of the bike.

Found my old duc that got wrecked head on by a minivan left turner on kijiji a while back, looked like someone bought it at the insurance auction and welded the entire thing together

In 1983 living in Edmonton, I bought a GS1100ESD, $4200 all in. That year was the end run for those models when the 1150 came into being in 1984.

I had lots of fond memories of it with the girlfriend of the day on back while taking weekend trips ripping into the Rockies and BC Okanagan areas.

I moved here in 1986 but prior I sold it to a guy from Calgary. I was on the hunt for the same bike once back here and in 1995 found one in the Hamilton area. It was a bit more worn down but when I got it home to go thru it I noticed reminants of an Edmonton dealer sticker on the swing arm, 'United Cycle' on Whyte Ave. Yup, that was my original bike. So 9 yrs later it had two more owners. It needed lots of cosmetic work but the engine was sound.

Sold it again in 2004 to a guy from NY state. Haven't missed it yet probably because my 2005 Suzuki Bandit has filled any voids of ownership.

I do miss riding in the Rockies tho... 👍

my old ninja 300 is on Kijiji right now, he put 5k on it. He's asking same price I sold it to him for two years ago, funny enough that was a good deal then and a better deal now compared to what others are asking for the same bike.

Are you selling any of your bikes? Lol

Found my wife’s old Honda Hawk/NT650 a year or so ago. She sold it back in 2008. We went to see it….the same guy she sold it to still owned it. The reality was a bit disappointing. I was fully prepared to buy it back for her, but it looked like it had been left outside a lot (or like 12 years had past? 😂). Shame…she had picked it up for a steal with only around 3000km on it. It was mint. I still kick myself for not scrounging up the cash so I could buy it from her!

That's a recurring theme these days.

COVID has made it such an extreme seller's market right now. And buying new is sometimes not even an option because of shipping delays, factory closures, high demand & low inventory.

On the flip-side, when all this BS has passed, there's gonna be a glut of very cheap, very lightly used recreational products on the market. Save your $$$ for that day. Or year...

1987 First bike 1977 CJ360T Honda. $275 delivered from London on Cert. 4 years ago listed for $2750. Considering how many times I dumped that bike 2 years winter summer riding never want it back.

So many people just buy a bike and leave it in the garage and then sell them years later with less than 1000 kms on the odo. Those are the kinds of bikes to look for. I can have the exact same love affair I used to have with the same model but with less mileage on her.

Yep, I bought my VTX1300 exactly like that. It was 13 years old when I bought it but had under 13,000km on it and looked like new. Garage queen. I put almost 100,000km on that bike in the 4-5 years I owned it and sold it for basically what I paid for it. Never once let me down, a few my-own-fault dead batteries aside.

Anyhow, as for finding one of your old bikes, I have a story that seems almost too unbelievable to be true (and may or may not actually be my old bike after it's said and done, but wow, it sure looked like it) and isn't likely a super short story, but if someone wants to hear it, I'll share.
