Did you ever have a retaining spring rust out and the gas pedal go straight to the floor while driving?
 
@Baggsy nope, but the drivetrain fell out while I was driving to summer school one day...all my male friends were mechanics so we used to wrench on our vehicles ourselves and do all sorts of *(&^ to them...

Ours did it a couple of times. Spring up near the air filter. Had the brakes go in it once, and threw it into reverse to stop. Actually, I put it in park first, and it sheared the parking pin off. It would start in any gear after that. Floor rusted through eventually, and would soak the passenger when going through puddles. Good little car, but didn't do well in our salty winters.

The things leaked oil so bad it shouldn’t have rusted
 
the only other major problem we had with the Concord was the thermostat...it crapped out and as such, wouldn't warm up in winter...in fact, my dad bought a 1988 Tempo, he passed away in Nov. 1989...one day, I went to take my mom out somewhere in the Tempo and it wouldn't start...we got into the Concord (which had been sitting for months) and it fired right up no problem...no heat, but it ran...
 
My old boy bought a new '74 Hornet. 3 speed on the floor, 6cyl.
He put over 500,000 on that one. Gas, brakes, mufflers and oil changes. Suspension didn't see service. It truly was a low rider.
My x bought a new '80 Concord. Sold it to a buddy with about 450,000 on it.
Rust on those 2 examples wasn't an issue.

I worked with Eric Cote to develop a rally racer out of a Pacer, that he took to the Rally Europa.
It lasted about in 13 minutes in the first open stage. Eric launched it off a jump and landed in an MG.
Everyone was amused... well except for the MG guys
We took the running gear out of it and made a mid engined Hornet... that actually wasn't a bad car. Moved the engine back 18", tube front end... Good times.
 
Had a silver 2001 Honda Civic se 4 door back in 2007 when I was 17. Bought for $2500 with 245k and a 5 speed manual. Started doing pizza deliveries on weekends and ended up selling for $1500 with 360k. Only ever did oil changes and one brake refresh all around. Best car I ever owned. Then it was BMW after BMW till I finally settled on a Mazda 3 for commuting

In the early 70's I helped a friend bring back a deuce coupe (283 V-8) he bought ($3000 IIRC) in Owen Sound. A local garage let him give it a once over and an old timer walked and chatted. He told of selling a model to a friend for $50 but the friend only had $27. They agreed to settle up later. A month or so later the friend said he had just slaughtered a pig and would half the pig be OK to settle the debt. "So I sold the car for twenty-seven dollars and half a pig."

Not mine but mechanically the exact vehicle. Inline six with a two speed tranny. Built like a tank.

I saw this one at museum in Steinbach MB.

The 1958's were apart from the crowd in the finny days of the late fifties.

Not even close to a tank. Old man drove one into the back of a dump truck. Then bought another.
First was baby blue & white, second was yellow & white.
 
First was 1975 Chevrolet Caprice 4 dr. When I moved to BC in 1989 my first was a 1972 Cadillac Fleetwood loved that car. Took it all across the USA one summer with friend. This is it and me at 21.

1968 Buick Wildcat convertible........... Not my car below, but mine was the same. 430ci/4 barrel, < 10 mpg, was a bit of a rust bucket due to Montreal winters and salt when I purchased it in 1974. Used a bumper hitch to carry around my Honda TL125 trials bike.
