2021 MotoGP Discussion (No Links - Contains Spoilers!)

Verified.
Dovi to Aprilia to be a tester for April 12-14. *IF* he signs, he has possible wild cards.

I love how coy Aprilia is trying to be. "Oh, no, Dovi, we're just looking for a no-strings-attached hook-up, we're really not looking for a long-term relationship right now. But if you're going to stay over, I'd be cool if you wanted to leave a toothbrush in the bathroom..."

Meanwhile, Rivola is putting on his red and yellow facepaint for his courting dance:

This offer had to be out there for a while, but Dovi wanted to see how the Aprilia did during the Qatar testing. Now that he sees that the bike has potential, he'll give it go. Can't rule out him racing full time again if he's has a really good test.

I guess we'll see soon enough...

So, with MM93 lurking in the wings, what are you predictions for Qatar 1?

I'd like to see Jack Miller do well, same with the Aprilia - hopefully they've rounded the corner to are things better.
Otherwise, maybe Mir... I'd like to see KTM do well, but that's looking like a pipe dream at the moment.

It will be one of the Factory Yamaha or Suzuki riders. I'll say either Rins or Vinales.

I am not yet on team Jack Miller. I don't yet think he 'knows' how to win a MotoGP race in the dry. He's always up front, but either podiums or fades. I do think though that once he wins, it could be a floodgate situation with him. We will see...

My prediction for Aprilia/AEspargaro is 8th or a DNF.

My dart on the dartboard says Quartararo, similar to my championship guess. If he's got his head on straight, I think he can be more consistent than Vinales. I'll also be watching Pol closely, curious if he can build on what appeared to be a successful test. I think he's got a shot at a podium if Honda can put the pieces together.

As for Aprilia, if they don't do well, it doesn't bode well for the season. Aleix usually goes well at Qatar, so hopefully they can build on that for a top 6.

Either way, I can't wait. Haven't been this interested in a MotoGP season start for quite a while...

Ok, what the odds look like now for 93 championship?

It makes sense in a pragmatic way, just to fully heal and then try to go for podiums in Portimao, but that's 50 points and while he has recovered from that before to win the championship (2017?) it will have to be another crazy season like last year. And to be honest, Mir's confidence on that bike has gone up and he only saw Marc as his competition, not even Rins, so he will probably try to go flat out at a track he did well at on his debut. I think Rins has this year to prove he can still deliver, otherwise Suzuki will have to give Joan the development backing to have any chance against Marc.

I think it will be the Suzuki boys and maybe Jack on the Podium for Race 1, that Ducati was built for Qatar. Mav moved to Qatar I think so he may be able to get up there, but if he doens't sort out he is always done after the end of the 1st lap. Race 2 is a mixed ba because as we saw with Alex Marquex the rookies can use the first race weekend as an extended test to setup for one good points haul.

Marquez has 2 unknowns working against him right now:

1. How long will it take for him to return to 100%? 1 Race? 2 Races? Not sure

2. Sort of an expansion to above, there is risk that some races get cancelled again - Europe is going through a 3rd wave, and the flyaways presents all sorts of risk (though, they seemed to have figured that out with Qatar as the case in point). So that is potentially 3 races of points that will become unattainable, making his results at that beginning of the year all the more important.

Okay I’ll make the crazy prediction no one else wants to make.

MM93 won’t complete the season and retires from motoGP in late 2021.

I believe mm93 will not be a factor this season.

hope im wrong. and 93 is back to his old self later in the season/next year.

mm93 situation provides sobering thoughts for everyone on the grid..

Dovizioso looks to be on the up and up after all. MRI proves no damage.
Ends up he took a serious wipeout and landed squarely on his melon. Have a look at the pics of his bucket... ouch...

Expensive FP1 for Ducati this morning... 3 crashes.

The new Aprilia looks like it's a revelation. Commentator mentioned the bike actually comes in under the minimum kg, so they had to add ballast and get to move that around depending on the track. Pretty slick thinking.

Seconded. Seems odd that he still needs time - skipping two races right off the bat makes it sound like he may be broken beyond repair. Would be a shame.

Announcers are praising Aprilia quite a bit in FP2.

I really hope dovi is successful on the aprilia

Maybe a win?

Ok, well, lets see what Mir can do with another so-so qualy start, Mav is looking like his usual self on Saturday before Sunday's race. I think It will be Mav, another Yamaha and likely Miller for the P1-P3 if he can keep it on 2 wheels. I'd like to see Rins up there, in order to push Mir harder, now that he is healthy but it's hard to say if the Suzuki can compete on staright line speed from the V4s and a tuned in Yamaha.
