Can you get insurance with M1 only?

Did anyone get insured with M1 only at a decent rate without the course? I don't feel like doing the course. I have experience outside Canada ( Europe and USA).
I just want to get back into riding in Canada.

No.
In theory you get your M1 and have that 60 days or w/e to practice and get ready for the M2(via ministry)
but without anyone willing to insure you(and trust me, they wont with an M1) that theory goes down the toilet.

Everyone who got their M2 did it with a course.

Very unlikely here. Most companies want to see you complete it to make a quote even remotely reasonable.

I teach the course and I would recommend it even to people who have experience. Not only will you potentially learn something new, you’ll save roughly 20% off insurance for 3 years following your completion.

Have you looked into transferring your license? Might be too late I guess based on your post.

fwiw a good friend did the course and had a blast, he was an expert rider going into the course and still felt he learned from the experience.
lol although he did quickly give up on street riding because of the insurance and now rides only competition dirt bikes.

I'm not against the course and I don't deny the purpose, I just don't want to wait that much.
Probably I will end up doing it anyway if there's no way around it. Just asking.

You can start riding before the course I'm pretty certain, it's just under restrictions. Like no passengers, no major highway no night riding zero alcohol consumption

They’re booking for mid April currently. You likely won’t have much enjoyable riding before then anyways.

IF you can find insurance!

How can you not on that bike, do you own nothing have bad credit and have no insurance anywhere?

You ride a baby Ninja don't you? Oh wait I see dual brakes on your avatar.
You're *******

You're *******

It has nothing to do with the bike, or bad credit or owning anything.

It's the fact that insurance companies won't insure someone with an M1.

Like the title says...

And pretty much every single message in this thread...

Except yours....

Not at all, but they just give you an astronomical rate only with M1 and no course.

Small piece of advice, your first ever motorcycle will not have massive dual disc front brakes.

Not my first ever bike and not new to riding. Just new to riding in Canada. Used to ride ninja zx7r back in the days.

Also, even if the OP was able to take a course today, it wouldn't bring him any closer to his goal of riding right now.

If he passes the course today, he'd still have to wait the 60 days after his initial M1 written test, to be able to bring the M1X papers to the MTO.

Sadly, first motorcycle in the Ontario insurance racket. If they don't credit your prior experience and are unlikely to unless you were insured at the time.
650cc sportbike that weighs 400lbs.+ and has Ninja stickers :/ Insurance people are going to be very mean to you at the very least.

They are looking for current and concurrent motorcycle insurance history, anything else is high risk to them.

Yes, it's a mess here. I've got quoted $1499 with M1 and the course. I will take it soon as I do the course.

Truth is, coming from a foreign country with different road rules, you need the course. Sad that training was not even an option when I took my M test. Insurance was outrageous back then too, it was almost a hundred and fifty dollars.

not completely true. many companies offer to insure you (at m2 rates) the moment you pass the course.

In Canada for 10 years and lived in the states for 8, so the rules are not an issue. They did the same BS with my car insurance also 10 years ago. A ripoff.
