Should there be a large Sturgis spike in the U.S. numbers ~ 3 weeks after the rally? U.S. numbers have been on the decline.

I don't think the activities of a bunch of deniers and anti-maskers at a motorcycle rally ends up with much different results than their activities if they did the same things back home. Daily new cases in the USA peaked in late July around 70,000 per day, it is now almost two months later and it's still around 40,000 per day. It looks like the bulk of that decline happened from July to August (50,000 per day) and has slowed down. The death rate has been stubbornly steady, though ... which makes one ask questions about the number of cases being reported.

1407 died in the USA yesterday alone :| Canada lost 9
We are holding our own, USA population is still dropping like flies.

So far this month alone: Canada lost 71 people to Covid
USA in the same time frame lost 12,868 people.

Where is the decline? Canada.
Where is the outbreak? USA.

Look at the population difference though, not just the deaths.

I find it amusing how the conspiracy theorist and anti-maskers

use the Canadian stats to support their argument

oblivious to the fact that the numbers are what they are

because we did do the quarantine and distancing and masks

if we'd stuck our heads in the sand
we'd have a death rate similar to the US

Using a 10:1 ratio our number would theoretically be 710 to their 12,868. To be realistic one has to factor in the population density and some are pretty dense.

I wonder where the trip point is for an insurance company that covers an individual for both health care and life insurance. Does a victim cost more to save or let die?

Seems Ontario is seeing a spike in cases, some talk about reducing allowable gathering amounts, and fines.

I hope it doesn't get too serious, I leave for Bc tomorrow morning and I don't want to get stuck in the middle of Canada.

And if we stopped paying attention and relaxed all protective measures, we'd have the US situation within a month or two.

Aaaand the first school is shut down due to Covid. Ugh. Didn't even last a week.

"The Acting Chief Medical Officer of Health for the Renfrew County and District Health Unit (RCDHU) has ordered the closure of Fellowes High School in Pembroke.

The decision was made shortly after a third case was confirmed earlier today that was linked to two previous cases.
The closure is effective immediately, and will remain in place until further notice. The school will reopen only with public health approval."

as for the population density thing

dividing land area my by pop and spitting an number of people per square km is a useless stat
most of Canada has zero pop

we have roughly the same level of urbanization as other western nations
a bit over 80%

Most of the stats are useless, since they aren't accurate. Makes it easy to talk out your ^$$ though, so many don't mind.

yup

anyone that claims Canada's death rate/pop
is half of where the US is simply because of a pop density stat
is surely passing methane through the mouth

This seriously feels like teachers intentionally trying to get people infected to shut down schools. The teacher that spread it at that school went in WITH symptoms. If they were asymptomatic I'd understand but seriously, that teacher should be punished for infecting people on purpose. So much for teachers caring about the kids...

Correct. That's the problem with some scientists today. They extrapolate from imprecise information, and then snipe at anyone who challenges them.
If you were to say, as far as we know, Canada has around half the death rate per population, you would be correct, but most won't say that.
Some scientists think that the actual infection rate is ten times the reported in most cases, but how would you prove that?
