Hypothesis: "Why did Woodward hang onto those tapes instead of going public immediately" -> possibly because Woodward realised that there was more to be found by digging further, but speaking up right away would have made Trump shut up and cut off his supply of more information ... and by keeping quiet (at least for a while), he could make Trump think his secrets were safe.

Woodward's been round the block a few times. Whatever his reason I’m sure it was well thought out.

What really gets me is that Trump just can’t help himself when he has an audience even if that audience is one person and that one person is a journalist. He just opens that mouth and incriminates himself.

Yet up to this point he's been "The Teflon Don" so, is this revelation going to make any difference? I doubt it. His followers see what they want to see and when they see people digging up dirt on him; they see it as another lefty attack. Evidence & facts don't matter when you have an agenda.

Trump is many things, one of them is a braggart.

In his interviews with Woodward he was basically bragging about the challenges HE was facing, simple as that, he can't help himself. What is sad, he was not bright enough to realize (then or afterwards) that it would come back and bite him--but he has also proven to be a pathological liar so lying afterwards also goes to form. Then a narcissist, sociopath....

He gets away with it because to his supporters, he actually looks smart. So none of this will change their minds.

This didn't start with Trump. Americans have been led into a delusional lifestyle for ages, ramping up after WWII (The war that they think they won all by themselves). They have become delusional. They are in denial. Their future has to change and that change is unacceptable. They have to listen to Hirohito's concession speech when he said "We must accept the unacceptable".

I know a woman that has been certified delusional. She believes that people she has never met are going to leave her a fortune. Therefore that person's property is, in her mind, already hers. She's just waiting for an excuse to move in.

Celebrities get stalked by people that think the celeb is hiding their love from them.

It's hard to change an attitude that a person has had imprinted in their mind since day one. It is their identity and they will lie and die for it.

Timing is everything. Too soon and there is time to recover. Too late and the opportunity is lost. In 2016 Clinton got the rug pulled out from her and didn't have time to buy white wash.

I think there are Biden attacks being held in reserve for more opportune moments. There will be more Trump revelations as well. Some will be strategically timed (Conspiracy) and some random. Very little of this election will result in factual benefits for the layman.

Trump may have been working a Munchhausen's by proxy syndrome game-plan. Let some get sick and then whip a cure out his bag of tricks and look the hero. If that was his plan the light bulbs and disinfectant didn't work. 192K dead so far.

I'm waiting for him to punish the pharma companies for saying there probably won’t be a vaccine this year.

Lots of inductive reasoning used here, and elsewhere in politics, which doesn't work out.

Im concerned that children are returning to school. watched a couple buses on the street this morning. EDIT or maybe it was just a dry run for the bus drivers?

if I had school age children I would keep them home.

ford saying masks and social distancing will keep them safe is such a load of cr*p

social distancing with 25-30 kids in a class room is not even possible. at some schools, student populations of 1000 or more exist...

why make such a push using our children? this is such a bad idea..

F you ford.

Without schools, ~20% of the workforce is out of commission. Working with a reasonable efficiency while looking after/teaching monsters is an impossible task. Online education is available for those that want education without contact. Uptake rate was ~20%. For little kids, socializing and being around others is the most important part of school. That part is completely missing via distance ed as by necessity, they are all muted.

For back to school.... sorry long winded.

Everyone has the two options of either online or in-class for elementary school. While the kids are at lower risk of serious impact (but not zero) IMO the big threat vector is spread to family at home (infected at school, asymptomatic, infect more at school....infect those at home). Most people I know that have higher risk people at home (health or age), or the kids at risk due to issues have opted for the online to protect themselves. Having said that, many people rely on it as daycare and even though in the high health risk category they are sending them anyways.

In the end, the highish online take rate meant that many schools "could" have had much smaller class sizes, instead they collapsed classes together to get back to the regular size, displacing teachers. Those displaced teachers mostly got moved to the online pool. While it would have been nice to take advantage of the smaller sizes due to online take, if they did not collapse classes together there would not be enough online teachers... You have x teachers and y kids...

Teachers in most boards were asked if they wanted to be the online teacher for the same health risk reasons. In the end most boards had a higher online student take than teacher take so they had to repurpose (in some cases force) the now extra (displaced) classroom teachers online. Many that were close to retirement also just opted for that.

Many new teachers (new grads), LTO pool and supply pool have decided to take the next year off to avoid the shitshow, so it is not like they can just increase the number of teachers easily. Even if they could, they would have to fire a bunch in a year or two when it returns to normal.

All this is also why there were delays to the starts for some boards because they needed to rebalance and move teachers around. It is sort of a supply chain management problem. While Ford and team could always do better, this was not as easy a problem to solve as it looks.

The next mess, parents have a small window to change their minds. Kids flipping out wearing masks all day may end up online in a week. That will throw another wrench in the works. After the short window most have to wait until the end of the semester to switch "streams".

And there is always straight up home schooling....

India looks ****** now. Hopefully, they get it under control quickly or they get a vaccine.

Stats observation: India is close to reaching 100,000 cases in a day and it's trending to hit that number and beyond.

yup, they are going to eclipse 100K new cases a day very soon.

I suspect in at least many parts of india, testing will be quite inadequate and therefore the gap between confirmed and actual cases could be quite wide.
