I went down

Perfect. They are doing their job then. Not only did you notice them but you also took steps to get in front of them so the bike cannot be rear ended by you. Pretty much the best case scenario for the rider (assuming you pass safely).
Except that bikes are more likely to rear end cars, than the reverse.

The other thing is that people who start by paying attention, and get distracted while stopped, may see your brake light going out as you starting to proceed. Since bikes tend to outpace cars, when well driven. They may be overenthusiastic on the gas pedal.

GWS Michael, glad that you are "typing" here.

Was once at an intersection with a left turn green and a forgetful cager from the opposite jumped the red and came straight at me. Being on two wheels actually helped as the bike was faster and there was more room to manoeuvre.
Will never wear shorts and a helmet while riding.
(Intersection: Erin Mills Pkwy/Britania)

"be free from the gravity of expectation"

I may consider a back protector since seeing this, though I fear being too lazy to wear it.

To clarify about the back protector I don't have a separate one, it's the kind that slips into the jacket. Can't not wear it if it's already in the jacket. I like the additional coverage a full separate back protector provides but like you I'd probably be lazy to put it on under my jacket, too. The ce2 insert is a good compromise.

Wow crazy, sorry to hear, but glad you are ok!

Where roughly did this occur is there anything troubling about this particular area or just a dumb driver?

It was at Castlederg and Mt. Pleasant in Caledon. Wide open straight road, clear day you could see the stop sign clearly from a distance. Well at least I could. The area is known for people running stop signs and speeding, but that goes hand in hand with being a dumb driver. I think he was distracted and simply effed up.
Nice riding roads in the area but being aware of the bad drivers and police presence in the area I never go more than a "spirited" clip through there.

If I were in your place, Michael, I'd claim anything that even had an unsighlty scuff on it!
Oh, do you know if they will provide a new license plate for you (assuming it was damaged/deformed)?

I'm not sure if they will, plate is destroyed but I do have another plate I can use on the next bike if necessary. I think if the plate is lost or stolen mto will give a new sticker but you have to pay for a new plate.

There was a cop up in Caledon that used a lot of ink on "Just a few over" riders. Also the good ol' country boys are very well known for the very fast roll throughs. If they think someone is going to roll through and they don't metal will be bent.

If the doc offers you an oxycontin prescription tell them to ***** it ** ***** ***

that sucks Mike, glad to hear you're in pretty good shape
shame about the VFR, beautiful bike

your postings indicate a good head on your shoulders
but just a friendly piece of advice

be very careful with the treats from the Doc
get off them as soon as you can

Thank you and agreed on the painkillers, I've known people that have become addicted to them.

Last night I only woke up once from the pain compared to 3 times the first two nights. I'm going to try to not use them unless it becomes unbearable, this morning I switched to Tylenol muscle and back and they are effective at numbing the pain at this point, which I'm taking as a good sign only 3 days post accident.

Glad to hear you are relatively okay. GWS

It’s not just cars we have to watch out for...motorcycles too . Today I had a cruiser launch up beside me from a light, showing me his front wheel and then blasted through in my lane. It could have gone downhill fast if I hadn’t held my lane position. Impatience and poor judgement are never a good combination.
Ride safe everyone.

Glad you are ok OP. I'm an ATGATT guy as well, but I've always skipped on the back protector(choosing to just go with the cheapo foam pad provided with the jacket). After hearing your incident, I'll think twice before leaving the house without wearing one.

yeah, really can't put a price on peace of mind, foam doesn't give you that..well me at least.

The back protector I bought recently, has 3 pieces of foam about 1/4" thick each. The foam layers pull out for cleaning so it would be easy enough to modify one layer, replace it with a more bullet proof material.

You can though, the ce2 pad was $75. Seemed pricey when I bought it, not so much now.

Good, I'm glad to hear that. If sharing my experience causes others to be safer and potentially save them from injury then at least there was a point to it.

I meant that for the crowd that may not want to spend the bread on one over the default option given in some jackets.

my thought - buy the best you can afford, certain things maybe go over budget and at least you know you've done the best you can.

hopefully we'll all be rocking air bag jackets or similar tech soon enough.

In this crash, do you think an airbag jacket could have deployed fast enough? The bike got punted so that would have pulled the pin, the question is whether there is enough time to inflate while travelling the length of the hood. That's not much time.

deployed for my buddy who went down recently ramping, so it deployed in the time he lost the front wheel and ate guard rail.

really haven't read up much on the tech tho.

D-air analyzes it's sensors 1,000 times/sec.
