Cheese Thread

As long as we're still talking about Oka, it's definitely worth the ride to the source, not so much for the deals on cheese, its the same price as here, but the roads in the area are great.

Oka is a semi-soft washed rind cheese that was originally manufactured by Trappist monks located in Oka, Quebec, Canada. The cheese is named after the town. It has a distinct flavour and aroma, and is still manufactured in Oka, although now by a commercial company. The recipe was sold in 1981 by Les Pères Trappistes to the Agropur cooperative.[1] Courtesy of Wikipedia

not cheese
but if I'm gonna litter a thread with crap that amuses me
maybe only me, figured I'd drop it in one of my own

I give it a C. It needs to be wider and taller. Also, it looks like the missed the opportunity to run lag bolts right into the trunk for more weight on the rear tires.

Maple Dale 6 cheddar, reminds me of cheese in my youth.

Makes me want to go to Cambellford.
Empire Cheese? Love that place. Used to stop there on the way from home to the in-laws at Omemee. They used to make a pepperoni-cheddar cheese that was the bomb for making a grilled cheese sandwich. Some ministry decided that mixing a meat product with a dairy product wasn't allowed and they had to discontinue it.

We're went out that way for "Indian Days".A lot of fun to hang out at Charlie Mahoney's place.

Went to this place a couple of time on the way to Tremblant. Lots of different stuff, mostly goat and sheep. Brush up on your French, as they don't speak much English. Google Maps
Edit: Forgot to mention the hilarious sheep out front.

How can you go wrong with a Fromagerie? I'm surprised more Ontario stores don't use some french in their names. It just sounds tastier.

there's a huge opportunity here in Ontario with all the dairy capacity
and now an allowance in USMCA for entry into the US

we make some damn good cheddar here and that's about it
would love to see some more European type, hard, aged cheeses

Some good stinky cheese, and I’m not being cheeky. Gorgonzola is lovely, ripe French cheeses at room temperature on a soft baguette. Mmmn.

Years ago I was in a car with some friends in the Vosges Mountains in France. It was summer....and very hot. We stopped to buy some nice Munster cheese and put it in the boot. Didn’t take long to realize that was a very, very bad idea.

Couple of years ago I was sharing a hotel room in Glasgow with my brother and I’d bought some cheese called Stinking Bishop on the way up. Forgot they don’t have fridges in hotels there. Brother wasn’t happy at all.

Where are the stickers? Subaroos need stickers to go fast.

Anyone tried toe cheese? Apparently it has the same bacteria as many fine cheeses -- just less costly.

pulled some decent looking fromage from my navel
had a few hairs stuck on it, so didn't sample it

not sure how long it had been there
it's a bit of a process these days to access that region

looking at taking a rip to Oka from the Capital region shortly
get some of that Habitant stuff and carouse the area a bit
will be an over-nighter

anyone interested?

Recommendations please:

What cheese would go best on a hot roast beef sandwich? Cheddar, Stilton, Blue, Feta??

The word processed negates the word cheese.

BTW Kraft was a Canadian that moved to the USA. He developed a way of taking unsaleable cheese and adding chemicals to unify it into edible synthetic sealants and gasket materials.
