Bike keys left in the bike

So curious if you guys ever had the situation where when you parked your bike and looked over to the bike next to your and find their bike keys are inside the pillion seat lock?(or ignition)

Take the key, leave a note to have the owner call you. If they can't provide proof of ownership then they aren't nice people.

We've all either seen it or done it at one time or another. No great solution. If you are going to be staying close by you could leave a note with contact info and take the key. I try not to touch others bikes though. I have turned off keys where they left the lights on but left the key with the bike.

Left my keys in the bike before and found them when I came back.

If it were me and i was staying close i'd pocket the keys and leave a note with contact #, otherwise just leave them and pray.

I'd take her for a ride around the neighbourhood looking for the owner.

I forgot to add... if the bike had loud pipes I'd use them like a dog whistle. Blip..blip then the speed limit (first gear only).

Seen lots of people leave their car running with the door wide open and run into a store too.
Is all safe from me no matter what they want to do, I don't steal stuff. ... or start up their bikes and mess with them.

only in the stix

I once spent 40 minutes looking for my key and my son found it in the pillion lock, was eye level for him ?‍♂️

Well after couple hours I went back out and the keys plus the bike is still out there. So that guy might be lucky to find his keys in his bike when he leaves :)

certainly not a great idea to do that
but people tend to not mess with bikes

the fact that genpop thinks we're a bunch of hooligans
does at times have it's advantages

I went to a sex Pistols concert once, left keys in bike parked at front gate basically. There when we got back.

No one messes with bikers! Hehe

I have done it a couple times with out issues but the best/ worst time was.
I have a Shelby Cobra replica and the keys are almost always in the ignition.
The car is in a locked garage up on a hoist with a 130lb bull mastiff having garage access. It’s probably safe. But bad habits being what they are.
I went to a pool party in south Oshawa, parked on the street in front of the house and left the keys in the ignition dangling from the center of the dash in plain view of a car with no roof and no door locks. About 6hrs in some guy hollers out “who has the Cobra?” He then approached me and handed me my keys and told me to be less trusting. “This isn’t the neighbourhood for that” he said.
So ya it happens and most of the time you get lucky and it would really suck to loose something just because you left a key. But just because the keys are in it doesn’t make it free to good home, it’s still theft.
