Like he said, tons of demand, not enough supply. You aren't in a great position to get them to move. If you want it, you takes what you gets.
Not really fair as in shooting-fish-in-a-barrel kind of fair
And that maxiPad in the middle of the Model 3 console would drive me nuts.

I'm not talking about your opinion as to what outclasses what, all vehicles are categorized into a vehicle class, the T3 is in the Compact Executive class. Category:Compact executive cars - Wikipedia
There are a ton of cars in this class: Audi A4 & 5, BMW 3, MB C Class, Cadillac ATS are makes/models that come to mind. Acura, Chrysler, Genesis, Lexus, Infiniti, Jaguar, VW, and Volvo also offer cars in this class.
The Tesla 3 is in a class of its own, Wikipedia should add a new category. There is no other electric car like it.
The market agrees and is responding.
since post 2 of this thread over 2 years ago, Tesla is still the only brand I recommend. Years later, still, STILL, waiting for Audi/VW et all to produce a contender

Based on what? Sunny classes? I agree that many people that want a model 3 are not cross shopping it against other similar priced vehicles. I think that will change once the early adopters have their vehicles and then the majority of buyers are shopping a price point without a "I must have a Tesla" attitude. It will be interesting to see how the 3 does amongst that pool of buyers. Just to be clear, I havent looked at one in detail (not its competitors) so I have no idea how that competition will pan out.

I think you are right that it's the market leader and innovator when compared to EVs. I don't think there is any question. In terms of acompact executive cars... probably not. Tesla will sell about 12K T3s in Canada -- Impressive, but not earth shattering. Their sales are largely at the expense of Camry's, Accords, and Altimas -- they are not displacing much in their own category, most compact exec car numbers are stable and growing.
That said, they are proving to be a good car, I know a few owners and they love their T3s. A dark financial cloud is on the horizon and Tesla's sales are dropping. I'm guessing the financial worries, challenges meeting price targets and need for product refreshing are all creating a dark storm. The good news is they know how to survive... and there are a few auto giants that would pounce on them if the price is right.
Um, its well known and documented that Tesla 3 is cannibalizing and conquering major bmw 3 series, M-B C class, Audi A4 sales and others...
Whats an Altima? they still make those? is that like a Volt or Malibu thingy? Is it even relevant?

Slow down there Sunny. T3 is a great car but I don't think it's scaring the big guys. BMW and Audi sells more of their 3 series cars than Tesla does across their entire product line. When you compare the A4 things look dim for Tesla -- A4 sales alone are >100K/quarter and growing at 15 % per year, that's bout 40% higher than Tesla's total production on all their cars.
I please explain your cannibalization argument when T3 sales are falling and A4 sales increasing?

And again, those are in an entirely different snack bracket. I would argue that most people that were willing to drop 90K on a car were not seriously shopping for 3/C/A4's anyway. You are paying level up pricing (5/E/A6) for the compact car. The fastest versions (M/AMG/RS) are probably the closest thing to a direct 3 competitor. Obviously the early adopters are many and they seem happy with their Tesla decision (for the most part).
The Altima interior is certainly nicer than the 3

A technology company that builds cars. I think they made the right decision there. They really aren't very good at building vehicles yet, so the less mechanical complication they have the better. They can push updates to fix their electronic gremlins that are being beta-tested on the streets.
Nissan sold more Altima's in the US last year than Tesla sold total vehicles. It most certainly is relevant. While the model 3 is a good vehicle, IMO its not even close to being worth $90K. The people buying Tesla's buy them because its trendy and they want to be "green", not because they dont want to spend money on gas. I see tons of them in Forest Hill. Its only a matter of time before the other auto-makers catch up and with the coming recession, things might not be so rosy for Tesla.

The cars are cool while they are exclusive, what happens when they become inexpensive and instead of being cool in a Forest Hill laneway, they are also cool in the employee parking lot at Home Depot. No more appeal for Forest Hill.
I can’t imagine a white interior aging well no mater who makes it.
There are other quirks to Tesla that might not win over folks that want luxury, class and good for the environment.
Heated rear seats that the rear occupants can’t control?
Well, I guess is because they tell their driver Jeeves to turn it on of course.
Tesla certainly has others rethinking their approach but, it not the great thing since sliced bread. Aka like a Instant Pot.

I can assure you the germans are quite worried. There was one report that said the Germans, I think Audi or MB, took apart a Tesla and were mesmerized at how well engineered and put together it was. Their engineers were sent back to the drawing boards and set their project behind a number of months.
Makes sense to me, I still haven't seen any competition from any of the germans..... except for all their "coming soon" and vapor ware models we've been seeing in drawings.
p.s. The Altima is a lame duck, doesn't even come close to a Camry or Accord. NIssan is a japanese GM, lackluster all across the board.
And it still has a better looking interior than the Model 3.
