Daily sports car?

Thread Update 1/21 --- Hyundai Genesis Coupe's fit all my check-marks - just browsing on prices & test drives now.

--- I've been wondering what a good RWD , stick shift preferably naturally aspirated engine coupe or sedan if that exists would make a good daily. My corolla while reliable is a real snail , twice as much HP and x10 the weight hence would like something more zippy.

Mostly been considering the Nissan 370z , been in production for 10 years now with a reliable v6 albeit I haven't test driven it.
Don't think I'd care about the lack of electronics, less things to go wrong, only thing I can think of is bluetooth which is should have.... right?

Would likely try out the BRZ & Miata but the performance from those is almost half as much compared to the Z - they aren't as dated atleast.

Then there's the Mustang & Camaro, both are a hell of a lot more spacious & comfortable than the above, only thing that worries me with these is the reliability hence the preference for the Nissan atm.

Is there anything else I could be missing from this list, anyone got experience with these?

Have written off most of the euro cars, BMW, Audi for the garbage reliability on them.

My brother had a Datsun 240Z was awesome fun, except in winter,
370z would be wicked fun :| except in winter probably.

BMW always made nice all wheel drive cars ;)

Try out the 86 / BRZ before you dismiss it out of hand.
under powered.

370z is old architecture, but if you don't care about bells and whisles the 30k enthusiast edition or what not is a hell of a steal.

pickup a mustang, even the eco boost is decent these days.

Wait, isn't the Mustang a pretty old architecture and over-powered for the brakes and suspension they put on them or did they fix that?

VW GTI or Golf R spec. Probably the most practical sports car out there. I've had mine for over 8 years now.Extremely reliable , fit and finish , interior styling are way better than anything comparable from Ford, GM etc. You can use them as A daily driver in the winter without any issues. I have snow tires and commute over 120 km per day and never had any problems. I have almost 230,000 km s and did my first brake job at 185,000 km. Other than that just basic maintenance , oil changes every 15,000 km. You to get a 10 year rust warranty. The only other car I considered at the time was a Suburu WRX STI.

I'd get an AWD car over RWD if you plan any winter driving.

Love my 2010 STI hatch; 300+ HP, real AWD, 6-speed manual with adjustable centre diff, handles well, carries a ****-ton of stuff, unique/interesting looks and sound, has lots of aftermarket support and has been reliable (some people have had issues with Subaru turbo engines but at 151K KMs mine's still strong (knock wood...))

I had a 1.8T GTI before the STI and would also consider a new Golf R. But I'm really surprised how many of those things I'm seeing lately. Nice cars for sure but not really "unique."

Nah, latest gen is lit.

For winter driving most of the roads are pretty much always clean here, hence I'm not too worried about it, will occasionally do some spins in the parking lot during winter, even on a corolla it still slides with the E brake tap for some fun. Definitely aiming for a RWD before they go out of style, even a tesla 3 P85D comes with RWD, I would grab that but it's still to early to adopt imo & the customer service/maintenance costs will kill you.

I've heard the ecoboost mustang isn't great, don't know if they've fixed the blown engines, would want a v6 or v8 but those may be too expensive for now. Not in a rush thankfully.

i had a 2007 Mazda Miata MX5 and drove that year round with a set of Blizzacks in the winter...thing was an absolute BLAST, especially in the snow...but then I only had 2.5 km commute to work so it didn't matter much...but man, that thing handles curves like it was on rails... :D

You'd buy a tesla but not a mustang GT???????

2015 mustang and up is the way to go, gt performance pack preferably. Amazing car inside and out and the coyote engine can take a beating. A lot of fun also as it is a high reving v8 with a huge aftermarket. Eco boost mustang performance pack will also do the trick just won’t have the grunt of the 5.0 v8. Best bang for your buck in my opinion.
New gen can be used as a drag strip car or road course car and have setups for both, there very versatile.
RWD is the way to go if you want a Tru sports car.
370s don’t make good power and are not as stout as the coyote engine, although it will be more nimble if you like drifting.

I had a very similar situation last year. I'm coming from AWD sport cars background (including race track experience) and I wanted something RWD.. almost bought a 370z but then decided to get a Mustang GT... and I freaking LOVE this car! It was the most fun winter I ever had! Yes, my prev. Subaru WRX STI was able to handle any snow and it was a pleasure to drive it in heavy snow.. but Mustang just puts a smile on my face each time when it is snow/rain/any weather.. 2015+ generation is just amazing (suspension, engine, everything). Plus, just think, you can install a supercharger in a Ford dealership and still have the warranty!!!

However, in my opinion, you do need to have some basic skills in order to drive a mustang in winter..

C7 Corvette Z06 ftw.
Production of the front engine vette comes to an end soon, as in days.
Savings on new ones, in stock are enormous.
I've owned a 5.0 mustang. I thought it was a fun car, m/t, coupe. Got down the 1320' in decent time, etc etc.
Then I bought a C7 Z06 last sept.
The car is rediculous.
End of story.
I don't drive it in the winter, but those that do, say they're great with proper tires(?)

we have a BMW awd with the M2 engine pkg. reliabililty is just fine and its outstanding all year round. we almost bought the new Miata MX5 but the dealers had no inventory when we wanted one, driving one since, the balance and feel is very 'sports car' . 2018 got a power boost, rear view camera, and nicer seats.
Boss has a mustang GT roush , its a bag of fun unless its a snow day, then its just hard to drive.

Idecided to get a Mustang GT... and I freaking LOVE this car!

Evo, yammie, and green have it right. Make me the 4th. I have a 2016 GT and LOVE it as well. The sound alone just makes me want to goose the throttle. Mine is not a daily though and it's stored for the winter. Gas will be a big $ too.

Stay with the Gen2 Coyote V8 (2015-2017) as the Gen3's removed the in-cylinder liner for a nikisil coating and they're having issues.
