Stupidly overpriced motorcycle for sale thread

Some have blank frames that never had papers. Many, I would even say most are insurance write offs/salvage bikes that maybe never came with much other than a bill of sale, or did come with a salvage title or salvage papers out of the states. Sometimes you get that paperwork with it, sometimes you don't because it's been lost or whatever, and a lot of people don't really care because it will never be tranferred to your name/plated/insured anyway.

And of course, I have to assume maybe a small percentage were stolen at some point...

I have 3 race bikes, one has no VIN, one has a clean ontario title, and one is a salvage out of the states with the papers ...whatever

I remember in 1988 buying an RZ500 from a dude in down town Toronto..I was so naive but I wanted the bike so badly...rode the train from Kingston..with all my gear and a certified cheque for $2,000...first warning...decent RZ500 then would be $3,000 and up....anyways it was dark...raining like crazy....the bike is all painted yellow with black stripes...poor man's attempt at Eddie Lawson replica...no front signals...no mirrors...I had the feeling it was likely raced or whatever...then he shows me the ownership...it says 1983 RZ350...um....its an RZ500...the bikes are entirely not the same....and RZ500 in Canada was only 1984,85...He says he lost the original ownership...MTO printed a new one ...did it wrong...hadn't had the chance to correct it...blah blah blah...anyways...it was an RZ500 for 2k so I gave him the cheque and rode it home in the pouring rain to Kingston....ordered some mirrors, signals..had them installed...got it tuned up....it ran pretty ******....I went to the MTO..explaining the RZ 500 did not exist in 1983...the VIN was "stamped" in the frame but I guess that can be fudged....the MTO lady changed it to RZ500 but would not change the yr unless I got letters from Yamaha Canada, etc etc...did not bother....sold the bike a month later for 2500 and bought a 1985 VMAX

Crazy what some people will ask but if the internals/motor are good you think it's only worth $500?

for me yes....

lots of damage on that bike, going to run you at least 1000 to 1500 to get it all sorted out

it's a 4 year old bike, 300cc at that and 6 thousand Km, I bet it's had a hard life

He would get way more parting it out, but that will take time and I am sure he does not want to invest in that....

for 2500, you can find a bike in mint condition, and no damage....if your looking for a project bike and keeping it, then for 500 it would be perfect...reselling it afterwards, I don't think so..

Absolutely. You can get an engine for $500-700, and you don't have to transport a whole bike, remove the engine, scrap what's left. Not worth the hassle for anything more then $500 or so imo

That's what I was thinking - you could make money parting it out if you picked it up for $500

True, I was just thinking if you parted it out you could get better than selling it as is in that condition..$2500 is pretty crazy for that

True true... but again, you're doing the work, both tearing down and selling. That's worth something. Think in terms of hours in vs. actual return.

probably wont be able to remove it himself, and since it will mostly be removed by someone else, he'll have to pay labor.

So in all likelyhood, he wont sell it stock
