Does my dream motorcycle exist?

There once was a 1098 S somewhere that was reasonably priced. Out of the budget I had set for myself, but still could have made it happen. The closest I came to owning a Ducati... now you never see them for sale, and they're probably not going to get cheaper

That's a 848 Streetfighter if you were wondering.

At this point in my ridding life I don't feel comfortable enough to park a bike like this in my garage. Too fancy for me.

Not trying to fite u bro, but "ducati-streetfighter-1098R-motographiteSR.jpg"

I ride an ex500, so my opinion is probably invalid..
I hated topboxes... but scored a givi rack and topbox, and it's on 90% of the time despite it coming off so easily.

VFR? Love them all for their sound.
FJ-09 looks goofy, but boy does that puppy excite me. That's probably my next bike, insurance on it isn't ridiculous (yet). Only $300/year more than an ex500.

One option if you like the FZ-09 motor but hate the looks is the XSR900. Same motor, sexier body. Probably not going to be the best bike on a long tour because of the lack of wind protection though. You sound like me, falling between the cracks between popular motorcycle styles looking for something that probably doesn't exist! I for one have wanted a Japanesea cross between a sport touring bike and an adventure touring bike that is 800-1000cc, has shaft drive but isn't really tall or wide through the seat! Pretty much impossible! Basically if the new Honda VFR Crosstour came with a 30.5" seat height my Visa would probably jump out of my wallet all on it's own!

You're mixing up your honda's, it's the crossrunner (only saying it cause i did the google search for seat height and ended up getting their crosstour car :P)
Yeah if it was gonna come to the market it would be very nice...
My cb500x is already 31.9" (and i can rest my heels easy at a stop) so going up to 32.5 wouldn't be the end of the world for me.
oh well, won't be a problem anyways since they're not bringing it to N/A for some reason

since we're dreaming...

further to Busabim's S1000R suggestion, here's the XR:

Shaft drive or belt drive would be nice, chain lubing & adjusting is another thing I hate doing. The XSR900 actually does appeal to me, but it looks like it may not do well at long distances.

I know I'm being fussier than that cat in the Fancy Feast commercials but I don't like the XR because it's traded all the coolness of the S1000R/RR for the practicality it gained. I don't want a high chair bike.

This thread has reminded me that I keep forgetting VFR750s are a bike that exist and that I've been able to afford for some time now. I've had a VF500F and working on that made the ZX-11 seem like a lawnmower, mechanically speaking... so I worry about something going wrong on a V4. They sound great though

VFR750??? You are talking about a bike that was last produced in 1998, you know that right?

It doesn't suffer the insurance problems of a ZX-11... the VFR800s never really did it for me. They seem like a good bike in spite of their design, not because of it, and a terrible value

Edit: After investigation, TD/MM actually does consider a VFR750 an SS. Rate is a hair over double what is would be otherwise... it just seemed reasonable at first comparing it against the ZX-11.

Edit Edit: Apparently there are other companies that don't consider either an SS? I mean, I'm looking at an Echelon quote that I could live with. I mean, I still own the ZX-11... Also TD/MM misclassified my GS500 as a GS500F, wonder if I can invoice them for the difference

Might as well do it right.

Japanese V-twins are cool but people seem to only date them for a year or two before breaking up. If I went that route I'd go TLR1000 anyway, but I won't because I can't put up with an SS as my only ride

Maybe something like the SV1000 or Superhawk? I don't really know what you're looking for anymore, oh and the VFR800 is an awesome bike. Have you ever sat on one? They are beautiful.

I reread your profile, list of impossible demands and the inevitable anguish that followed. After backflipping thru my mental moto rollodex the best bike I can suggest would be a well sorted SV650 with the 1/4 fairing and a decent slip on/soft luggage upgrade. Not an intercontinental cruise missile to be sure but I am sure that it'll handle anything southern Ontario and the near north can throw at it. So I think that settles that. You'll appreciate I did not undertake this decision lightly, therefore if you do not move on this front I will be forced to consider our longstanding online friendship null and void. Good day sir.

2010+ Multistrada.....

Aren't sv650 and versys pretty much equivalents? And for the versys id be talking about the 2011-2013ish version

I wouldn't consider them close at all. They are both 650's and have cheap suspension but that's really where it ends.

Drastically different ergo's not to mention the Versys has a handlebar where the SV has clip-ons.

Not close really.

Versys being "high chair" is not on the table. Please try to keep up.

I'll tune in with a more derogatory term later. And biting my tongue on the SV650, which is a motorcycle that I respect

My younger brother is re entering riding this spring. It will be an SV650. Everything else has been ruled out.
