NBD -New Bike Day - (soon)

Over the last week been talking to LBD (Local Bike Dealer) and doing some research. I set a price i would accept for a trade of the Majesty and
a low point / high point for the out the door cost of a new bike. Doing the Craiglist selling dance is a pain these days so would rather trade. Do not loose that
much when factoring in time spent selling and the tax savings.

top of my list was a 2016 Honda NC750X DCT. Also under consideration was a Yamaha FZ07 and FJ09. I rejected the FZ mainly because of no ABS plus would have to had
added a windscreen and top or side cases. The FJ was close and similar in price to the NC but with the FJ it would put me in the next more expensive insurance tier.
plus i really do like the twist n go aspect of the scooter.

So on Friday I traded the 2015 Yamaha Majesty in on a new 2016 Honda NC750X DCT. The dealer worked out a price that was lower
than my set low point so i went for it. Was kind of unusual in that in the past i kept old bike and left a deposit. But dealer
asked if i would trade that day as a deposit. Said would give them a chance to sell it considering this is the start of their busy season. I sad ok since i would more than likely
just park the bike at home as technically it not my bike anymore.

the only downside is now i have to wait for new bike to come in. They said they on list for May delivery but said they put out a feeler to another dealer with a NC due in April
will try to trade their May bike for that April bike.

NC 750x is nice.
sat on one at the motorcycle show last weekend.

DCT is too iffy for me right now. i dont wanna be a guinea pig but since its honda i doubt they would mess it up.

Welcome and congrats on the new bike

Nc750 is an awesome bike

yes. i can understand being wary of this new fangled DCT tech. But in the 2016 i read it is 2nd generation of the tech. So with that, any bugs would be worked out. Also the DCT has been out in the EU
for a while now and from the NC forums i have read there not many issues with it. Most love it once they ride and experience the DCT.
Still tho, and i almost never consider it, i think i will opt for an extended warranty, just in case.

Congrats on the new bike, but I would suggest you not give up your current ride until you get the new one. Especially since you're in Vancouver with a (relatively) year round riding season.

When I bought my last bike, I signed the deal in August, but didn't get it until November. The deal was conditional on including an OEM tail rack (I use my bike to commute) which kept getting delayed. I secured the trade-in value for my old bike in August, but would not give it to the dealer till I got the new one. I put another 9,000 kms on before they got it.

I wonder how this plays out with insurance if there is a delay with the new bike...

if you mean what i think you mean. My Majesty was insured until July 2016. Do not get the NC until hopefully April. So today i took my transfer papers
and insurance docs plus license plate to an ICBC insurance broker. They did the paper work to cancel insurance on the Majesty. I will get a cheque in mail
from ICBC in the amount of $152.00

I also asked what the cost would be for the new bike for 1 year. They said it would cost me around $1050. Plus $18 for new plate and $45 for ownership transfer.

@skyway6 kinda what I mean...just want to make sure that they don't try and ding you with a lapse of insurance. But I have no clue how long that lapse has to be for them to use it.
I personally would've like to have kept the scoot + insurance until the new bike was ready. Or even just kept the insurance on it and then switch over when the new bike came in...even if you didn't actually have the scoot. Just thinking out loud. Not sure of all the legalities.

That's what I always do when I sell a bike. I don't notify my insurance of anything, just leave the policy as is. I know it'll only be a couple weeks at most before I buy something else. When I buy the new one I just call and transfer insurance to the new bike. Less hassle, no cancelations on file. Ymmv

Awesome, you bought my bike's cousin. More scooter-ish gearing, but i hope you enjoy it :) congrats

i thought of keeping insurance on until i got new bike. But on the other hand did not want ICBC to keep any money if i had no bike. The Government gets too much money as it is.
I would have had to pay more anyway for new bike. No straight up transfer. The Majesty is in a lower insurance tier (111cc to 400cc) and the NC is in next (401cc to 750cc) there
is no worry about any cancellation being on record. We only have one option for insurance in BC.. ICBC. Once i transferred the ownership to the dealer insurance is on them.

I like the fact that the NC is DCT and more scooterish. I am old and need a relaxed no fuss geezer bike. Do not like cruisers so the NC was it.
