I am looking to get my bike plastics, fender and tank painted.
here is pic of pieces and tank size for reference.

probably as much paint as a car bumper would need.

I called a few motorcycle specific places and they all wanted $700-$800 for basic black with clear.

called up a local car body shop and im out the door at $300 around the same price as you guessed it, a car bumper.

You get what you pay for. Smaller parts need more prep. What are the plastic pieces you have mentioned?

Collision shops - they don't use the greatest primers / paint etc. But all contribute to the lower cost.]

$300 vs $700-$800 - there is a diff. What kind of primers / paint are being used ?

DuPont paint, plastic adhesion promoter, and 2k clear.

plastic pieces are side panels, rear fender. front fender is metal and tank is metal.

$300 includes minor dent removal on tank.

the shop is actually highly reputable and well known in the tuner car forums.

some of the cheap quotes i got were around $230-250.

Added value: I had the rear bumper of my last car re-painted for $250.

I wasn't happy with the final job, but needed the car for commuting purposes. I would have easily paid $500 for a better paint job.

Try not to relate paint job pricing to anything else; the quotes can vary WIDELY based on the paints/primers they use, how thorough they are with surface prep (which is where the real work is), and also how busy the shop is, and which of their painters does the job. "You get what you pay for" is a very real statement when it comes to paint.

@dina fwiw I love the two-tone paint scheme.
Let me know if you decide to change your rear signals, I'd be interested in the OEM.

ive seen some horrible paint jobs come out of a few atlantic branded body shops. rocker panels missed and told that was a optional section from the factory for paint.... fish eyes, runs in the paint. and thats just the paint....im going to keep this motorcycle related and not mention parts falling off my truck when i drove away...oops just did.
and special thanks to TD MM for not backing me on your preferred shop.
2 yrs and only 1000km (going to and from the shop every couple weeks) later sold the truck at a 14k loss

Painted my bobber a pearlescent purple after the conversion using a local auto collision place for 300 as you mentioned and its holding up great 3years later. Doesn't even see much wax/TLC compared to my brand new bike or my car.

Whoa there Guy Smiley....there's not enough room here for 2 purple bikes! ?
Nice colour choice. Pics?

and 4 care tires are cheaper than 2 motorcycle tires
welcome to this hobby/sport

wtf type of stupid comparison is this? Are you comparing China tires you run on a beater to something that is a performance tire? Keeping it equal, a set of Pilot Power 3 will run you $350-400 depending on size and where you buy them, Pilot Sport Cups which are a equivalent tire in Michelin's auto lineup are anywhere from $400-500 a tire.
