Rotella T6 vs Motul 300V Oil - My thoughts

Hey guys!

So after doing lots of research about oil I came across these 2 oils that have the biggest followings for our motorcycles. I initially posted about these 2 oils before, but now doing much more research on the subject find that indeed both oils are great, and it is a matter of your use, if your just normal riding or getting setup for the track that can determine what oil is right for you. Personally, if your a track guy, Go Motul 300V. If your a city rider, id say for most applications T6 is the good choice.

There may be no 1 right answer, but I think its safe to say both of these oils are great choice for the majority of motorcyclists!
Let me know what your thoughts are; I made this comparison with my thoughts and research on this subject.

I agree Motul 300V for the track. For the street I use Motul 7100. Those are my thoughts.

wow...it took you lots of research to figure that out??

I'm already dreading having to work the show all weekend and dealing with the "but the internet said this, the forums said that" buyers.

Just tell them to "believe whatever they want".

As with most things in life it takes effort to learn about things you were not familiar with from various sources to be able to come to a conclusion on a question or thought. So yes, lots of reading from many sources, research of many different oil analysis fidnings, people's thoughts, the specifications, and testing, this is the conclusion I came up with.

I guess I am super obsessive and go really in depth about anything I purchase or make a choice on, one of my flaws :P

I just read labels. Hell, just from looking at the jug the average rider can tell which oil would be more appropriate for track and which one for road.

Your next post better not be you did lots of research and went through so much effort just to figure out Pirelli Supercorsa 2's are better for track and the Angels for the road...

Haha I'll definitely make sure I don't make a video about that :-). In all seriousness though most people would not assume by looking at the front of the bottle Rotella t6 that it would be a perfectly adequate motorcycle oil. The fact that it's advertised and labeled as a heavy duty truck oil. was looking into these two oils was not that because I didn't know the motul 300V was better, but to see if the Rotella t6 which is significantly cheaper than the Motul product would be sufficient for most motorcyclists on the road.

From my understanding, T6 is not really a full synthetic, whereas Motul 7100 and 300V are. The equivalent Motul would be the "5100 Technosynthese", which GP Bikes sells for $35/4L.

I'd pick the semi-synth Motul over the Rotella but that's just me.

(I've put the dino Rotella in my FJ for a couple years with good results. $20 for 5 liters is hard to beat.)

T6 the equivalent of 5100 semi-synthetic?

Source?

i run 300V on my street bike and Rotella on my race bike... unless I only have 300V then I run it in both bikes.

On my GSXR the rotella used to make it difficult to find neutral and generally the bike gear box didn't feel smooth once I had some km on the oil. Racing the oil does not go longer than a race weekend so Rotella it is.

I do the opposite, T6 on the street GSXR1000 and change it 1-2 times a season depending on mileage.300V on the track GSXR1000 and change it once a season usually 5-7 track days...
