So the first go at riding I had both a CBR 600 F4i and a VFR 750. Both decent, but being more of a track fiend I'd like something more "aggressive." I'm going to stay with a 600 as I'm just getting my M2 again... this weekend and ~$1800/year insurance awaits for the first couple years. I've done the Honda thing and want some thoughts on the GSXR/ZX6R/R6. I'll be riding this as another toy, mainly on nice days unless I get caught out, but most likely to and from the local tracks. So the best bang for the buck at the track is more important than a comfortable second seat.

Also, thoughts on tires too. I'm an advocate of driving my car on R-Compounds on the street as the braking/avoidance ability is night and day over street tires. Is there anything similar in the bike world to a Toyo R888 or Nitto NT01R?

just replacing the fairings or lights etc on a streetbike from a track crash will cost more than a used prepped track bike.

Also worth noting the ZX6R is 636 where the R6 and GSXR are 600's. Depending on how your insurance comes up with quotes, 636 might cost you more. It was going to cost me an extra $300/year so I quickly crossed it off my list.

Regarding your tire question, most motorcycle sport tires grip like those no? Rosso 2 etc. The trouble with getting something more track oriented is standing water and heat (or lack thereof)

but most likely to and from the local tracks.

If you're riding your bike to the track, what will you do if you have a crash or mechanical breakdown? This is another big reason why you'd want a dedicated track bike (or, at least, tow/transport your bike to the track).

I have a trailer and can trailer the bike, I also have CAA so I'm well covered in the **** happens department.

What are some of the R-Compound brands out there? Any with minor siping lines similar to auto r-compounds?

R6 is a beauty on the track and the road. Throw some Metzler M5's on it and you'll have grip, rain or shine.

Any hyper sport street tire will work just fine. Dunlop Q3's are a heck of a bargain compared to some others.

There are 02 and older for 2g lol but I guess no FI is a big deal? :P

lol th
Not necessarily, just wasnt sure what price range and year you were looking for.

Also a great bike, just make sure it doesn't have 2nd gear issues.

Ya, I guess the price range thing would've been a good idea. I'd like to get my setup completed for around $5000.

Are the Metzler M5s and Dunlop Q3s true "track" tires (sorry to beat the dead horse here, just want to get the right tire).

After checking the Q3s, what about these tires: http://dunlopracing.com/tires-products/d212gp/

Are you going to bring a generator/tire warmers and have enough pace to keep the heat in the tires?

Find a Daytona 675 unless you wanna keep it at 599cc. If that's the case I'll also go for a 2006+ R6

I have a set of 212s on the tb, love them. 3 days on them and are wearing really well, mind you that is DDT and Bogie, both are easy on rubber
