Re: Kahuna going out of business?

Re: Kahuna closing?

They just put up job postings not too long ago.....looks like someone is getting laid off. If this is actually true.... any other kawi dealers around?

Re: Kahuna closing?

My guess just a re branding of the joint.. they are known for misleading advertisements.

Re: Kahuna closing?

seems like a marketing stunt to me, but who knows??

see how everyone is talking about it.

Re: Kahuna closing?

I am not sure why people are happy about it? regardless of your experiences this is bad news for our sport, plus people are getting laid off (imagine if you lost your job) and one less business paying taxes etc.

This is why I dislike people in general!

I fear the same: I will get there and everything will be a season old and marked down 25% from original MSRP. I don't know how much excess inventory they could really have if they already have everything at Ride and Ride isn't closing shop.

The lack of specifics in the email blast certainly doesn't help.

Re: Kahuna closing?

The selection seems to kinda suck right now. I walked in and asked where the gloves were, some lady waves her hand menacingly at the corner. Poor selection and prices.

Or the great one... Do you guys carry Rev'it or Dainese? No but we carry Icon... its better.

eh went to Rider's Choice and got the stuff I was looking for.

You were just at Kahuna and there was no real sale going on? If so, you just saved me a trip.

This occurred to me as well, wouldn't rule it out I guess. Maybe not even a re-branding but just re-assigning all of Kahuna's assets to Ride

I have no opinion of Kahuna, but since I started riding (about a decade ago) this 'sport' has grown massively. Why shops still have to close their doors is beyond me... these businesses simply haven't figured out how to adapt or reach new customers. It sucks, but its true.

I can't say anything bad about Kahuna (though their new location is kind of cramped) and my dealings with Norm have been nothing short of amazing. Shops will continue to close their doors for many reasons though and I'd like to think that it's mainly because of price disparity between what we pay and what americans pay or even people in the EU pay. I like to buy local as much as possible but it's hard pill to swallow when I can order Dainese gear from Germany for $300 cheaper a piece (pants/jacket) and that's even after being dinged for taxes, duty and brokerage. So in the end, while I like to support local business, I have my limits too - I am not a charity.

I can't say that all of the fault is with the dealerships and stores per say (though they do take the sizable chunk of the responsibility) but the distributors definitely do them no favours.

Re: Kahuna closing?

I for one would not be surprised if we see a "Hey! Thanks everyone.. you saved us from closing! We're having a still in business sale".

Their marketing tactics are questionable at best.

I was going to +1 your comment but then realized they would never say Thanks.

^ +1.

Also, still there is no shop who has their service dept. opening 7 days a week. Doesn't mean the mechanics have to work 7 days with no days off, just mean that some may work the weekend and take 2 weekdays off.... workforce management is still a new concept in this industry. As an owner, you'd pay rent for the entire month, so why close the doors when you can generate potential sale opportunities?

I, as a customer, will pay extra for the convenience of a shop able to service a bike on a sunday.

Sorry, but that sounds kinda crazy to me. That doesn't fly at most car dealerships. I wouldn't want to work weekends as a toy mechanic so I wouldn't hold others up to it either
