Ideas for glove color choice...

Just thought I would ask for some input.

I am in on the Velocity group buy and the blueprint for my custom glove is this:


My wife saw it and thought it should be just left as is (i.e. do not change the existing design).

This is an older pic from someone here on the GTA site to show how the inside of the glove will likely look if I do not request any changes:


I was thinking of changing the white leather in the palm for black to hide the dirt better and to change the white leather on the thumb to blue.

I was also thinking of changing out the white leather on the back of the glove for blue. Perhaps too overkill?

What would you do?

Option A: Use the existing Velocity design.

Option B: Use black leather on the palm but change nothing else.

Option C: Go full smurf! Black or blue leather on the palm but blue everywhere else.

Option D: Feel free to give your ideas for a design.

What about the outside of the thumb? Leave white like this GTA member owned pair of perhaps make this blue?

If I had to customize gloves here's what I would do seeing that those cost a bit. I would try eliminating as much sewing as possible. From my observations the seams always burst first in a crash. Like the whole palm of the hand should consist of one layer below then additional layers added on on the meat of the palm.

I love seams that are on the outside rather than the insides. It just feels more comfortable because the seams are not pushing against your fingernails.

I like my gear shades of black & grey because it will match anything if I change bikes.

I went and saw Jimmy @ Velocity today. I have decided to go all black on the palm and the topside of the thumb will be blue to match the fingers. However, the rest of the topside will be white. So, I think I have modified the areas which would show more dirt; yet not made the glove so blue that it could be part of an armored smurf outfit.

I saw Jimmy's heated gear and it is pretty impressive stuff. If I start to extend my riding season more then I might pick up a vest and gloves in the future. I really like his Velocity stuff and have the jeans and will have gloves soon. If he does another promotion with the kangaroo leather for the same price as regular leather on his jackets again I will support it.

These gloves are going to be a huge upgrade over my existing gauntlets.

And if anyone worn these gloves during chilly nights? Do they keep your hands warm a little?

I wore these last year when I went to see Jimmy to order my armored jeans (on that group buy) and check out his racing suits, jackets etc. They are very comfortable gloves and other than adjusting to the bridged pinkie I found them to be just as comfortable as my existing gauntlets (which I wear all season). I was hoping for a group buy but the next group buy was on his heated gloves so I held off until now.

I cannot speak for how these gloves are at +10 degree Celcius or below. I can say though that I plan to wear these on all of my rides. Other than the bridged pinkie (which could save a break or severed finger) there is not that huge of an adjustment.

In a spill it may well be your hands which contacts the pavement first.

I would rather have some sliders to help protect my palms from road rash rather than just a little extra rawhide. I don't my gloves to look like this after a spill:

Gauntlet. While I have shortys I rarely use them anymore. Better protection with a good gauntlet. This is an area I'd never cheap out on again. Ask me how I know better :rollyes:

Now, that is very much a personal choice. I like gauntlet for the extra protection they provide. I wear a mesh jacket 90% of the time and there is nothing left to protect me beyond where my CE rated elbow pads end. My gauntlet gloves not only give me some extra impact protection on my forearm but they also would provide some abrasion protection if needed.

You really need to go and try some out and see what you think. If you don't mind the gauntlets I would recommend them for the extra protection. If they bothered you I would recommend a well armored shorty. I would look at how the stitching is done (single stitched, double stitched), what is the thread made of, does the glove have sliders, what are they made of etc.

This is part of the reason I recommend looking at how the fingers are stitched etc. A GTA member here had a seam blow and he had a bad hand injury on the track but did not lose part of a finger like this guy did. This is a fairly expensive glove (pretty much on par with the Velocity VR Pro).




If you read enough threads on gear on different forums most gloves seem to have someone who had something bad happen with them. Dainese Full Metal seems to get lots of props.

If you are looking for gloves I cannot recommend these gloves highly enough. They are really a crazy deal for the black gauntlets for $180 (tax in). The buy is essentially over but I am sure there will be a few last minute orders in the next day that Jimmy will likely honor.

Glad you got in on the buy. I honestly think you will be thrilled with the gloves.

I have tried these Five gloves which cost more than the VR Pro and I think they are not in the same league as the Velocity gloves:

I think you have made a good decision with respect to your gloves.

In all fairness, I broke my hand because of the initial impact since I landed hand first. As I mentioned in my review thread, that I had worn those gloves no more than 10 times and unfortunately the leather/seam ripped upon impact. I had the Dainese Full Metal Racers, now I am happy with my Dainese Full Metal RS gloves and I hope to not crash test them this year.

Yikes! That's right. That was your thread on the 600rr forum. Look at how thin that leather is.

The last pair I wore had really crappy threading around the fingers. It almost seemed like the threads were loose. For a $80-$90 glove that is supposed to "look" like a race glove then perhaps this could be forgiven. The price point of this is approaching A* GP Pros and other highend gloves. Heck, they are $50-$60 more than the Velocity gloves BEFORE tax!

That being said, the new Five RFX Race glove looks like the real deal. Kevlar thread throughout etc. However, I am hearing a MSRP nearing $600.
