Poor guy. One wonders WTF happened. Seems the road was "okay". Maybe a combination of new tires and a frozen road? I've gone out in similar if not worse conditions many times and never lost traction like that. I suspect there's more going on there there than just a frozen road. Maybe he trusted his TC too much?

The only issue I have with riding in winter temps/on winter roads is it's just simply not as enjoyable and the clean up after the ride to get all that fine road salt dust off is a PITA.

Save it for the spring.
 
Slammed the throttle on cold tires.... I did this on my 650 last winter when I bought it and rode it home. Was used to my 250... I didn't go down tho but the rear slid out a bit. It doesn't look like he eased off the gas when it started happening and it just went out from under him.

Easing off the gas is the worst thing you could do.... that would transfer weight to the front of the bike which has already lost traction and you'd go down even easier. Your best bet is to stay smooth on the throttle. From what I've seen and read...in theory, anyway.
 
get a c63 and drive like I do.... much more excitement than riding in this type of weather

Bingo. Saved me quite a few times on my FZ. I haven't ridden my ZX in enough low grip situations to get in trouble from it yet but running into these situations with my FZ first taught me a lot of respect for "more powerful" bikes in low grip situations.

Easing off is okay, chopping the throttle or closing abruptly is not. Always smooth inputs.
 
To the OP... SURE go ahead ride.. After all Kijiji NEEDS another "used bike dropped by PREVIOUS owner in the driveway" ad..lol

You guys must have a far keener eye than I do, because his throttle hand looks steady throughout the crash, expect when the bikes slides out. If there was any abrupt on-off throttle input before the crash, it was very slight IMO. Do those bikes have "twitchy" fueling?
 
The 650 has some good low torque, maybe that did it. It looks like a slight twist of the throttle, but yeah not that much. Easing off the throttle is what I do, and it's worked for me...at low speed anyway.

I wasn't commenting on that specific video, just as a general rule. It's hard to see what happened in that video, I can only assume cold tires on cold pavement.
 
It's a CBR125 and a new rider, it's gonna get some scratches and damage eventually.

You've gotten the advice from experienced riders, take it or leave it. Waiting is the best option, don't listen.. Well don't cry after either about how you dropped it and need to go get it fixed.

Waiting is the best thing you can do. This comes from experience, I decided to keep my 125 commuter on the road late into the season, ice on roads and I took a nice spill at about 60 to 70 km when I hit an ice patch. I'm just happy I didn't do it on my R6, might have been a tad more upset and got hurt.

Every choice has a consequence.
