KTM RC390 Leaked to world...from Canada!

Pls post the link.

I wouldn't expect you to take deposit on a bike you cannot get. You know someone who does that?

Here's another way: http://www.vin-decoder.net/vin_VBKLSS404AM735120

First letters of the KTM 690 VIN (from google searches, I don't have one) appear to be "VB" and that means the country of final assembly is Austria. http://researchmaniacs.com/VIN/Where-is-my-car-or-truck-made.html

A vehicle made in India should have a VIN starting with MA, MB, MC, MD, or ME.

By no means does this imply that the vehicle's parts are all coming from that same country. Knowing how the automotive industry works (motorcycle = automotive), a vehicle with its final assembly in Austria is probably built with parts from 20 different countries. Maybe more.

P.S. I found an error / discrepancy of some sort. I own a vehicle whose final assembly was in Hambach, France ... it's the only final assembly plant worldwide for that vehicle. But the VIN starts with WM, which the table says is Germany. While the manufacturer is indeed based in Germany, and it contains a lot of parts made in Germany, and Hambach is literally just down the street from the German border ... it's still wrong. I suspect that it's a specific error with that VIN decoder table. For every other vehicle that I own, the table is correct.

That's good news. Does it come in Mens.

I actually do know someone who bought one of these in the Philippines when he moved there. He says this has a lot of power and that it is spoiling him. He had and loved the same bike as I have now, and this one will be a bit louder and vibe more probably, but it has lots of torque. So I think this is worth a look.

As some may know (likely not) I'll be a new rider, and was looking at all the smaller displacement bikes.

I found a lot of people on the internet with problems with these bikes. Small gripes for the most part, but two issues seemed very common:

1. Heat on left leg
2. Very difficult time starting with hot motor (if you stall)

I've read about various engine issues as well. I've already decided against this bike.

Eeeew look at that skinny rear tire. I would not be caught dead at a Timmies with that slow tire.

I often don't have any choice from what country a product comes from when making a purchase. But I'll be damned if I ever buy a motorcycle made in India. They are taking all our IT jobs, so they won't get my money.

Lol they are not taking anything, the jobs are given to them by Canadians.

pffft. 44 hp. if it was a 2 smoke with twice the power i would consider it.

Well think about this.. It has a 11 L gas tank and the wet weight of the bike is 154.0 kg (340 lb).

Compared to the Honda CBR250R 13L tank and wet weight 166 kg (366 lb) (with ABS). 2 L doesn't weigh 16 lbs. The CBR250R is a heavier bike with less power!

Ninja 300 has 17L tank but is
174.6 kg (385.0 lb) wet.

The KTM 390 is a light bike IMHO. I believe this will make a difference for certain things.

We visited the local KTM dealership in Colombia this afternoon. They had quite a lot of 200 Dukes on the floor and couple of 390s as well. Most motorcycles in Latin America are in the 125-200cc range and it makes perfect sense as there's no need for 115hp with the traffic and road conditions here, plus being small, light and agile means being able to lane split and filter through the constant jams and gridlock. Riding a motorcycle down here means saving an hour each day in commute time to work and back.

This is the Duke 200 Limited Edition, it's about $500USD more expensive than the base 200 Duke (~$6000USD) and comes with a special sticker kit, anodized aluminum bits, handguards and axle sliders front and rear. I'm a big fan of the underbody exhaust, it really cleans up the tail area. Although I'd chop the rear shovel off and go with stubby-tail for a more aggressive look.

Supposed only 200 of these were made

I really like the looks of this motorcycle. Even in Canada, it'd make a great city bike. We get pretty envious of the tiny motos zipping through Latin American traffic while we're stuck with our sidecases as wide as a car.

The video I watched in Turkish a few days ago from the KTM Salzburg HQ said that the parts are made in Austria, then shipped and assembled in India, and then went under final testing in Austria again.

Me to KTM rep at bike show: "Is the 390 coming to Canada?" (I didn't specify RC or Duke).
KTM guy: "No."

Not coming to Canada, yet it's shown on the KTM Canada page. So which is it?

Who knows. Show people are probably not privy to last minute decisions, same as with Apple Store employees.

Already decided against the bike based on internet, eh? Good luck buying any bike at all ...
