2014 Ducati Monster 1200

How are the 1100 monster for long distance comfort? Ik like the 1200 Now that its liguid cooled. How are the insurence rates for mature (old) riders.
I have an old traumatic back injury. Long distances? Forget it. My back lasts for about a tank of gas, or an hour, before I need to "stretch it out". So it works good for me at every fillup. Insurance? Just received my quotation this month-full cover=$1,300/yr. Bike is the liquid cooled 2005 s4r-996cc. It was actually quite funny. The first year I owned it the insurer had not yet classified it as a sport bike- so I did pretty good back then! I am a mature rider (at least numerically).

That bike's gotta be STUPID!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Looks like a really awesome ride, but a lot of folks will be longing for the old 2 valve motor when they see the service bills.A 4 valver needs a lot more work to change shims and belts then the 2 valve does. There will be a lot of them for sale with 23,900 km on them.

That's a proper motorbike. True story.

I was looking at buying one of these, but the service interval turned me away.
I put on 20,000km per year. I'm not ready for that.

Eh, I'd still be happy to take an S2R 1000

Edit: Or a Streetfighter 1098. I never liked the way the Monsters looked when you stuck a water-cooled motor on them. The Streetfighter never had the problem for me - more frame I guess

Most sport bikes have the same service intervals for valve checks as modern Dukes, they have addressed this. I realize DESMO was a great idea in the 1960s, but today it remains an over complicated, difficult to service way to open and close valves. The only reason why they do it is to be distinctive.

I think the modern, small monsters are nice.

I have the S2R 1000.
The only thing I changed was to put 18mm bar risers on it. I have done many 5ookm to 600km days riding with no different issues that any other bikes may give you. At my age I sometimes get aching shoulders by the end of the day. I get this after long rides on FJs and Bandits.
I go away for weekends on it riding all day long and its a great bike and lots of fun.
