The old Race Oval is gone for good.

That lamp post at the exit of the top turn always kept me a bit in check. If you high-sided on that turn you would no doubt be thrown right at it. Rumour has it someone bought it right into that lamp post.
 
Man, I don't even remember seeing a lamp post. I was pretty close to the apex and looking around the corner to be concerned with a lamp post on the outside of the curve.

what happened to it? I've ridden that area countless times in the past 4 years yet have never been to that oval

Scrub the rubber in then Mad Max it downtown hitting the Humber Hump.

Use Google maps to view that area. The oval has been cut off and it's become a rectangle.
 
This looks like it would make for a whole lot of fun.

Don't bother going there now though, there's two buildings going up next door and everything is covered in an even coating of dust, dirt and sand.
