Help - Crazy Story - Caught my neighbour kicking my bike over

Get a restraining order against the guy ASAP.

lol...been watching too much tv? You can't just go out and get a restraining order against anyone. It has to be a former spouse or partner, something of a domestic nature.

All he can do is potentially get a peace bond or protection order. It will likely be the release conditions of this guy who got arrested that he can have no direct/indirect contact with OP anyways. Peace bonds are issued by a judge but have to be agreed upon by both parties and only last for up to a year, the recognizance/bail conditions are in place til the matter is dealt with in court.

bake him a cake as a gesture for peace if that fails you can try using construction adhesive and be creative is what I heard some ppl have done, just sayin'

How much is the damage?

Start reading and learning about small claims court, you can sue another person up to $25,000
Start thinking about moving out, you don't want to live next to this guy - he may do it again, to your car, yourself, etc. Sounds like he has absolutely nothing to lose.

Now, why did he do it? Was he on drugs? Get the cops to look into it.

If the guys doesn't work he probably doesn't have money to pay if he looses. Maybe they would garnish his welfare cheque.

On behalf of the older 40+ folks on here I apologize. I always ask my wife to give me heck if I am acting like a "Mr. Wilson" and telling kids to get off my lawn. Not sure what is the deal with your neighbor? I would go out of my way to avoid that guy like the plague. I suspect he has no aversion to drama and obviously does not have fear of retribution or legal ramifications for his actions. It actually scares me to think of what that guy might do one day.

Get some advice from legal representation whether to proceed with small claims or go through insurance, etc. Note that for small claims, even if you win the case, you may have a hard time getting blood from a stone.

Ah, but a peace bond is still worth it.

The reason is because legally they are considered a conviction of an offence which means next time something comes up it's not a first offence.

Of course the next time is probably when he gets all stabby.

And a peace bond can become problematic, when people actually share a wall where they live. It's pretty tough to get terms like 'shall not approach within ## metres' when your doors are adjacent.

Life is too short for crazy neighbours. Explore other places to live. Move on.

Agreed. Don't bother with small claims either. It's a ******** process that takes stupid long without much success, especially if they have no money (speaking from experience).

Unfortunately I agree with this. Typically I'd say stay your ground and let the ******* do what he will. However, you get your bike fixed...it'll happen again, and again, and do you feel like going through this regularly? Some people just do not give a **** and will make your life a living hell for fun. Life's too short for idiots like that.

Can we have a moment of appreciation for the cops in this story, who seem very on top of things
