Have a 2011 SV650S ABS 10k on it - never dropped, needs tires which we were upfront about.

New battery a few scuffs from strapping stuff on etc.

See the same model private at $6000.

Anyone have some insight as to what a fair trade value might be?? thanks

In my experience the trade in value comes in b/w 3/4 and 2/3 of the private value being on Kijiji. So I'd be expecting around $4,000 - $4500 for it as a trade.

That's what we were thinking taking into account the need for tires and that's what we were initially offered. $4500.
Then when we got there our rep who made the offer was not there and suddenly it was $3k and then reluctantly 3200 which I think is low.

The bike we are trading to is a very good deal new FZ8 at $6995 so we are giving some allowance for that but $3200 seems theft. Because the rep is not in today it's hard to coordinate and get a straight answer.
Tempted to buy the lien out and just finance the new bike outright and sell privately.

any other insights anyone??

Ya, I'd say the same, around 4500 after you negotiate them up. Keep in mind that you actually get an extra 13% (the taxes) when you trade in as opposed to selling privately.

sorry for hijacking thread!

im just curious on what is the average acceptable price range for a sv650 (private sale) these days? of course im leaving out details like km's condition, addons etc, but I'm just looking for a range. looking at 2009 or higher

If you calculate the value of the 4500 + hst you're looking at $5085 total value for the trade. You're still out $500 assuming the selling private price is negotiated down (tires for instance). If you don't pay out the lien now then you're not really gaining anything and you're already upside down (depending on remaining value). IMHO...pay off the lien and sell private. Use the money made towards the open loan and reduce payback time. That's what I did when I bought my 250. EDIT: Or you can sell it to Pan as above!

That's exactly what I'm thinking.
Kid does not have the cashflow but I do and don't like to see him hosed on this and the deal on the FX8 is too good to miss.
Thanks.

They're likely selling the FZ8 at a tiny bit above cost to clear inventory and trying to make money on the trade. Common sales tactic. I would stick to your guns at a minimum of $4k trade. You shouldn't have any problem getting $5-5.5k on the private market for that bike.

yes I've decided that route
either $4500 on the trade or I'll just finance the new one outright

appreciate the insight.

Yeah we know the deal on the FZ8 is good as the 2014s are due and will be lower than the current $9500 retail on the FZ8.

The other dealer we visited was at $10,400 for the FZ and I showed him the ad and he went away mumbling and just disappeared.

Agreed. However even though the BIKE will be sold at little above cost, they'll run the end price with all the lovely 'non-negotiable' fees because it's such a great deal on the bike. I'd hazard about another 500-700 in fees at the dealer alone before HST is tacked on.

"Tis indeed true - we felt $4500 knowing it needed a tire set was "okay" as extended warranty transfers and supposedly financing too.

I don't think it's very easy to transfer the financing. I tried that with my car and the bank said they'd have to go through all the hoops of approving the new owner, plus the 0% financing isn't valid any longer as it's not from the original dealership blah blah blah...easiest is pay it out, and then be done with it. If you don't do that it shows a lien to the new owner on the UVIP anyway.

I wouldn't say 6000 for used is reasonable.
new 2013 is selling @ 6200...
So probably more reasonable to say resale at 5000? at least I wouldn't pay 5500 for a 2 yr old 10k if i can get a new @ around 6200

just sayin

Got lucky and scored a set of tires for $100 - guy bought the wrong size for his sport bike and they are correct for the SV
one bit of luck.

Now just have to get them mounted.....

Anyone got a place in the Brampton/Mississauga area.
