How comfortable is all that with those Velcro straps? I'm looking into upgrading the armor in the knees / hips / elbow area and I'm interested in this. I've also seen some pull on type knee / elbow guards which may prevent uncomfortable feeling from the Velcro straps shown here. I think BlueStreak may have some but can't remember the name at this point.

The knee guards suck without something underneath the straps. I have a couple of microfibre cloths I wear underneath the straps behind the knee guards. With those on I can tighten the knee guards up so they are nice and snug. The knee guards vent air so they are surprisingly comfortable. I feel much safer with them than without them.

The elbow guards are pretty comfortable and I wear them without anything under the one strap.

Users seem happy with it. Given how little I paid for my long lived JR mesh jacket - this should work okay upping the armor level without breaking the bank.

Ah my knee guards are the same company and I'm happy with them tho the straps are getting a tad loose. $22 tho.....

and certainly saved my knee coming off in Australia and they are very light. Good reviews. Well for sure then will get the Fox armored shirt as I've got an idea of the build quality.

The velocity armor uses very high end materials. Forgot what brand but they are up there with forcefield. It's actually tested, unlike most armor out there. There are a few CE levels. The velocity armor meets the highest level. I cant recall all the details, numbers and specs.

I did not get one yet. I might go to revzilla's store to check out the forcefield stuff in person.

If that shirt is as light as the knee protectors I will be very happy and feel a bit better riding with my jacket open which I often do especially when photoshooting from the bike.

That's the one I was thinking of. The Bohn Armor looks pretty good actually. As for the knee pads, my moto boots come up fairly high so I'd need a short type of knee so it doesn't interfere. Thanks for the link.

I have the Bonn leggings --- love them. No muss, no fuss so more likely to wear. Plus, they are great to deal with.

So I wear them most of time riding. The other night was hot...so just stuck them over the jeans. Not a fashion plate look but the deer were out and they won't care.

Fits well and relatively easy on and off - like the side zipper and certainly good freedom of movement and easily adjusted to keep the armor exactly where you want it.

I'm not bothering with the kidney portion as it's already in the jacket. Back is comfortable as well and zips on and off easy tho needs another person if the shirt is already on

good deal at $139 US shipped to the border. My photo gear shirt fits over it so no problem with just that and the camera.

Very pleased on the ride up to the Forks - comfy - feels like the armor is part of you and it's cooler even than the mesh. No binding at all and you can adjust the should so it pulls in tight for your size.

Just need to figure out best shirt for under it but my photo shirt with the pockets fits over it with no issue so that's perfect.
Back armor pushed me forward a bit from the backrest but that might be okay. Can always adjust the back rest.

I wear a 2x JR Jacket and the 2x/3x on this ( combined size as it's stretchy ) fit fine.

I;m going to a lighter offroad bike in Aus KLX400 and move the KLR650 to road duty....it's too much of a pig in the dirt and the KLX weighs 110 lb less.

The shoulder straps on both sides are set once to hold the shoulder padding exactly tight to the shoulder
Just unclip and run the zipper down to take the shirt off







Zippers are easy to hookup - stretchy material and they run smoothly

same one time adjustment to snug the elbow and forearm armour in place



If it hangs in over time I'll be very pleased - figure if it's comfy from the get go I'll wear it more often.

Both are good items to wear and little "penalty" to use (easy and quick to put on and off and light/breathes air. I have to disagree about the knee armour though. Takes seconds to put on the Icon ones and when they are strapped nice and firm they have never shifted on me at all. I even wore them around the office one time to see what they would be like. Got just a little warm but they did not move all day. I have seen too many crash photos on forums with knees ripped to shreds and/or with literal holes in them to not wear knee guards.

I've been using one for the last two years offroading and it's been great. Saved me hitting trees a few times.

I would like to see the stats about where most head hits happen as I got to thinking about this the other day in the thread about the guy who got a 1/2 lid and loved the openness of it.

I've only crashed on dirt (knock on wood), and thinking back to every time I've crashed, it has been my knees, then hips, then elbows and hands that took the impact. Only a couple times has my head made contact with the ground -- and both times it was my chin that took the impact and the chin guard that saved my face. I've not come close to banging my skull off the ground. That's why I can't see doing any aggressive riding at all without a full faced helmet. Even now that I have a modular helmet, I only open the chin guard when I am stopped (fuelling, etc).

I hit my head good enough to see stars while going down a hill. I fell onto my side and my head smacked the ground right after my shoulder. But yeah, that was the only time I've hit my head crashing, it's always been my legs and hands, then upper body.

not so - they are not hot, almost cannot feel them and don't move around if strapped on properly and mine has gouges where it took the hit not my knee.
Tore through the pants, gouged the knee armor - I never even knew it until I saw the hole.

I do wear them most of the time.
They will only get hot sitting around in the sun as they are black - takes a few seconds to unstrap or strap on.

Wow, those knee guards saved you a world of hurt and possible surgery and/or rehab. To me they are a no brainer. I strap them on underneath my jeans and when those Velocity kevlar lined jeans come in I will continue to use them underneath those as well. The armoured shorts and knee guards take no time at all to put on but I feel so much more protected wearing them than without.

Mine seems to always stay in place, have not tested in a crash yet LOL. I ride with them on 95 percent of the time, if I pop out for a quick lunch I may opt not to put them on. But they tuck into my boots and the between the straps and my jeans they don't move around too much. I may have to adjust them once an hour or two but no biggie. As for heat, with all the other gear the leg protection doesn't add much. I hate riding without them actually, doesn't feel right.

Why buy it in the USA? This exact Thor Impact armour is $125 at Royal Distributing and I believe they offer free shipping in Canada.
