I was going out for a night ride last night, gassed up in Streetsville and then was riding around and heading home. The whole day I thought my oil level was low and sounded like the engine was struggling a bit so I was going to check and top it off when I got home.

Anyways, I'm a 5 minutes from my house and I look down at my dash.

Wow, my bike is at 104? It's a pretty cool night, a bit frisky actually.

WHOA now I'm getting scared, it's steadily climbing. I'm trying to cruise, I'm now up in 6th gear. Lots of cool air blowing. I look down.

OMG. I am a few blocks from home now. Should I just pull over? I'm half waiting for my bike to shut off or explode. WHY DIDN'T I CHECK THE OIL EARLIER!!!!

I am cringing now, how hot until failure?? Can I make it home?? the weird thing is, I don't really hear the fan on, and my legs don't feel warm at all.

I look down....

Wait, that's not 141 C, that's 14.1.....23$@#T# I was looking at my odometer which I just reset when I gassed up *face palm*

Shook my head in relief. Temp was at 84C. Got home and my battery died. lol.

LOL thank you for that story:lmao:

Dude....lol

If it was at 104, unless you flashed your ECU, your legs would feel the heat!

I was going to say.... those temps your pants would have melted first :lmao: Things like that happen to everyone from time to time even if people won't admit it.

That's why I kept my VFR800 for a grand total of 30 days.
I bought it with a leaking water pump, and replaced it then it would still get up to 104°C.
High performance = high heat.
My SV650S was a sensible bike.
I now have a 2006 Tiger and it can warm your thighs but the fix should be easy. A bit of muffler insulation should do the trick.

When I got stuck on the DVP during a heatwave I shat bricks just like you :)

But this story was really funny.

The electric fan on my 2010 GSXR doesn't go on until 106 - 104 is not a big deal

Hahahahaha that's amazing.
So many people are so serious around here. Gotta be able to laugh at yourself sometimes.

My '12 kicks on at 103. Wonder why the difference? I wish it would at 100.

ECU flash. You can also do some really stupid **** (like remove rev limiter) and bypass the need for a Power Commander.

My VFR800 goes up to 104 and the fan kicks on.. drops to about 98 or so and then stops.

What's the big deal? That's within spec.. and I'm sure the Honda engineers know a lot more than we do when it comes to designing the bike and why the fan kicks on at that time.

My 6 kicks the fans on at 100, and it can get pretty toasty on the right at times

Well I was close to home, wanted to push my luck and I didn't know what the highest safe temp was; I assume the engine would shut off when it gets TOO hot so as long as its running I'm not doing anything too dangerous.

I wish my fan comes on earlier too, I think it comes on at 104.

You can always install a manual switch.

Chances are if you ride while the bike is overheating, you will damage your motor.
Next time, pull over and wait for it to cool down.

Speaking of this. How come 250's dont have a digital display ? Theres only a temp light/oil pressure light. Isnt it to late if the temp light comes on or is it warning zone ?
