As the title says, I will be going there this Fri afternoon with a beginner friend and picking up the bike if everything checks out. We will be driving there, but I will ride it on the way back.

Any expertise would be appreciated, and participation would def be golden.

The bike we are interested in is this.

edit: Food and gas on us.

2 for 1 deal. The food, GIVES you the Gas.

Gotta read the fine print.

I'll see myself out.

Spicy Turkish sausage =)

It wouldn't be at the Keg, that's for sure. Maybe at Swiss Chalet lol - I dono man... maybe pub food with 1 alcoholic domestic beverage or something =)

Never provide alcohol.
You can give them x amount of money and what they buy is up to them.

Might be able to come if I can ditch work early

Hey OP I don't want to rain on your parade but that bike is overpriced, are you joking it's 5 years old (and ran hard in those years I bet) and they want $4,600 for it? Brand new is $6,000, or $1,400 more. I would not pay more than $3,200 for it.

This:
I can't come but, hopefully you bargain the price down, for a 08 with minimal mods that's pretty over priced.

Good luck on the hunt.

BTW, Grand Bend is not exactly London.

The seller agreed for a $600 discount.

At this point, I still agree that it's overpriced, but there are so few of them around, so I guess they can get away with the prices they are asking.

Yea, and Thornhill is not exactly Toronto either, but I'm def looking forward to that ride from London to Grand Bend.

Country Roads, take me home =)

We're not buying milk for the baby, you know.. it's a bike - a toy. So, you pay to play =)

Is your buddy dead set on getting a DRZ?

My bike isn't listed for sale yet, but I am probably going to list my 2009 KLX250S soon as I am planning to move to a Vstrom for touring... the KLX has a 351cc big bore kit available too if a 250 isn't powerful enough for him. It is not a street fighter though, has the larger dirt wheels and dirt tires.

Good luck with the purchase!

Grand Bend is DEFINITELY not London, and if you're driving to London just to get to Grand Bend you must be a sucker for punishment!!

The roads from Kitchener to Grand Bend aren't exactly fun riding if you ask me, but if you know the area there are a few roads off the beaten path that are a bit more enjoyable.

The plus side is that Grand Bend on a summer weekend is NUTS and you'll have a blast if you don't mind sitting in traffic :)

3200$ lol. bikes looks good and 4000$ sounds about right. For obvious reason these bikes keep their value unless trashed. Hard to find all unmolested and ready for you to mod away. If it was maintained properly frequent oil changes etc seems like a good deal. Get him to write the bill of sale to like 2000$ save some money on the tax. Bike is bullet proof if maintained. Looks like new tire, avons...also unsure of the 70MPG thing... I get 40 but I ride HARD!

Few checks:

remove the sprocket cover and see if the C/S nut is loose
Check the sprockets for wear
chain lubed up
take plastics off look at all electrical you can see...no chopped electrical taped up wires, should be nice and neat from factory.
3x3 mod? if so needs jetting
Start it cold, choke for 25 seconds or so less, listen to it. It's a noisy motor but if it's really noisy could need a cam chain
throttle response should be pretty good...a wee hesitant with out jetting.
Ride it. go through all the gears.
check air filter....if super dirty it probably has been neglected...no biggie if you buy clean it!
ask about loctite fixes, if unsure of what they are get on Thumpertalk.com DRZ section.

I would only be worried if it was not maintained properly....most say oil change 1500-2000kms with good oil of your choice, valves should probably be checked but it's easy and takes 1/2 hour, 15 just to take the tank and head off. Good luck and dont be afraid of the Km's...many 50,000km DRz out there.

D

ps be sure to check the drain plug. over-tightening will crack the case...new crush washers everytime time!
