Bike stolen today :( Insurance claim question

Condo's should have a policy to have security check all windowless vans, trailers, and trucks going into and out of the parking garage...

Do you really think they're going to get off their lazy ***** to do that for the same wage? On top of that, they would still have trouble when the driver just says they're transporting a bike for a friend. Then what?

Good cameras wouldn't make a difference. If not caught in the act, probabilities are that they will not get caught at all.

If it's policy to do so or else they lose their job, then yes they will.

If they want to leave then they say "Please provide a copy of the ownership papers."

Cause if they were legitimately moving it for a friend he would either be with them or they could easily get a copy of the ownership from him (unless he's in a coma or some other highly unlikely situation).

No idea is completely fool proof, but it would help stop bike thefts in condos significantly, especially with barriers like this

instead of the paper thin gates parking garages always have.

As long as guys keep buying stolen parts and bikes this will continue. One group of guys will be locked up, the next one will be setting up shop.

I'm not being serious but there are ways of making explosives really easily lol

If someone tries to leave with your bike without disabling it, boom. Remember that your bike also has lots of flammable materials as well. If you can't have it, they sure as hell won't! Blame it on the thieves.

...now if you forget to disable it before you leave....=/

yeah cus that's legal
got a search warrant for that ?

It's private property and they aren't cops... Before the van driver even enters the garage the security guard can tell the driver that there is no access for windowless vans/trucks/trailers unless he gives consent to quickly search the back on the way in and on the way out.

Got a problem? Ok, you aren't allowed to take your van in the garage.

What do you not understand about "It's private property and they aren't cops" ?

There is nothing illegal about me asking to search your backpack if you want to come into my house, and there is nothing illegal about me searching it if you give me consent to search it. If you say no, I'll just refuse to let you enter.

There is nothing illegal about the Air Canada Centre searching my backpack for weapons before I enter the stadium to watch a hockey game as long as I give consent for them to search it. If I say no, they'll just refuse to let me enter.

Same situation with condo parking lot security guards, there is nothing illegal about them searching the back of your windowless van as long as you give consent for them to search it. If you say no, then they'll just refuse to let you enter the parking lot.

It is a completely different situation when a cop wants to search you for walking down the street or your car at a traffic stop.

Never argue with an idiot. They drag you down to their uneducated level, then beat you with experience

Wrong. If it's a rule enacted by the condo's board of directors, it can easily be enforced. You don't like it, you're not allowed on the property it's that simple/

*edit*

Delicious irony above
