Bike stolen today :( Insurance claim question

As mentioned before in another thread, my 07 GSXR was stolen today from condo parking.
Police report has been filed, but I wouldnt even have a clue what to expect from the insurance company.

How do I know what a good offer is? Bike was in mint condition, as many of you have seen over the years!
What do you guys suggest?

Just thought I would post an update here for all those condo owners.
There aren't actually any surprises here though, but the cameras picked up the 2 guys jacking my bike and putting it in a (what appears to be) grey GMC Safari. They took about 5 minutes to do it (surprisingly longer than I thought!)

The police got the truck on about 10 cameras but non could they get the plates from. The officer was very disappointed and said people need to make sure that condos they move into have GOOD cameras, at least at the entrance and exits. It's foolish to think they could cheap out that much.

The condo we have isn't cheap, and isn't very old! I think you guys might be shocked at how horrible security really is in some of these modern buildings! This condo is located in Thornhill around Centre St/Bathurst. There have been many bikes stolen this year in the area already.

Look on kijiji for similar bikes to get a baseline of what they will pay out

I went through insurance for my ZX6R

What year and model?
How many km?
What insurance company?
 
Damn that sucks, sorry for your lost. Will insurance cover after market stuff, I'm going to assume those would have to be disclose when you install it?
 
what ever they offer you if it seems unreasonable which im 100% it will be
fight fight fight, cry if you have to dont settle they all break
never happend to my bike but it did to my moms car i had to ***** for like 3 days they offered 2000 i got 5

my condolences by the way couldnt imagine the feeling

Insurance will pay for performance parts (i.e steel brake lines) not for beauty mods like fender eliminator .. State Farm at least

Lets say you installed new muffler ecu etc. Will they just take your word for it that you had installed it or would you need to tell them that the bike has been modified and provide documentations?
 
I'm so disappointed :(
It was a 2007 gsxr 750 black/silver with red race railz from stunt works. Had quite a lot of aftermarket stuff. I guess I have pictures of most of the stuff like exhaust. But I don't wanna lose the money on the the levers and stuff. It's been years since I purchased this and power commander etc!

I'll check around though, thanks for all your advice

Sorry for the loss. It always sucks when you loose a bike. A quick answer for you is get the number from your insurance company, and look at similar adds. Unfortunately it is usually harder to find similar adds to your bike due to the fact there is not as many bikes for sale as cars. Try to find dealers that will sell a similar bike. They are usually more expensive then private sellers. If you get 3 adds that are higher then your insurance comapies offer, show it to them and they will bump up their offer. Another thing is you buy from a dealership with the money they give you, some insurance companies will reimburse you for the taxes.

Another condo horror story... What the f**k is security hired for?

Did you have any chains/locks/alarm on it?

That really sucks man.
 
Bike was fully chained to an area where another bike was, and that one wasn't taken. My lock was cut.

My girlfriend is rather upset over the whole security thing, and they told her "the condo doesn't have security. The security guards are here as just a service at the front lobby nothing more". They were very rude and had her in tears! She's concerned for the safety of everyone in the building.

Although thieves aren't necessarily violent, it does show that even in thornhill nobody is actually secure or safe! Unbelievable.

I spoke with security and asked for them to contact the owner of the bike chained next to mine, so that he may have a chance to save his bike in case someone comes back. They refused to help me, and said that they cannot do that because they don't want to create "concern" within the building! According to the officer, it's the second bike gone from here. Nice of the building to warn us!

It infuriates me to think of the crazy maintenance fees that continue to go up year after year. Not to mention the MF parking tickets they hand out daily to our guests! Security sure is on top of that!

It's the residents and condo boards...they have this huge issue when their guests are denied access, or if security "harasses" them for following someone in. So they make rules that allow anyone that can say "I'm going to XXX" to gain access.

In my experience I didn't have to provide any documentation, however my bike wasn't stolen, it was totaled so it may be different

I had levers also on mine and they wont cover that stuff, the power commander is performance so they will cover it.

In regards to the price of the bike, they will look at auto trader (?) and other websites to get a comparison with other 750's same year and similar KM then they will add taxes to that and that will be the price they will offer

If I was you, I would go to a couple of Dealerships and get a couple of quotes for similar bikes and use that in your advantage. Don't wait until they call you, have all your research done before they call you to settle. Be firm but don't try to jerk them around and be fair. You will always end up having to put some money down to replace your bike unless you downgrade a bit in model or year etc.

In my case in 2011, I got 6500 for my 2008 zx6r with 44000km taxes in, then add a few of the mods and I end up i think with 7100 taxes in. I think that was very fair. I added another 1400 and bought a 2010 gsxr 750 with 3000km. So I paid out of my pocket but got an almost new bike

This just gives an idea. Remember this was state farm

Condos are the worst place. Chains, locks,the security guard can be sitting on the bike, it doesn't matter. One of our customers had a spot by the door in front of the camera. Didn't help. They pulled up with a van and pulled the bike in.
 
You mentioned Thornhill. Are you talking about condos near Bathurst st/Centre st ?
 
The security guard sold the info to find the bike, that's why they were so rude, but no one will believe that.
10$ says one of the numbers called on his cellphone was to the thief.

Just like when a certain person i know wouldn't believe R1timmay was a crook, had to find out the hard way.
 
I feel your pain, it's f***ing frustrating that condo rules actually are counterproductive for issues like this.

Hope that insurance gives you good money and as painful as it is, you get a bike and start modding it up in no time.
