Gut feelings of robbery

Today around 1pm went to check out my bike- condo parking. I think it was a Honda pilot beside my stall (usually no body parks there), inside there were 2 guys sitting and smoking. I spoke to them, they seem to be nervous- few minutes later they drove away.

I called insurance to add theft, they told me I needed safety of some sort or add it when my renewal comes up. Do you guys chain your bike? Alarm? What measures do you take?

You live in a condo and don't pay the 5 bucks for theft...

Disc lock for starters. Scorpio i900 is a good alarm.

Yeah... Condo pretty much means theft insurance is a must. If a thief REALLY wants your bike, they will take it, doesn't matter what you have on it...

Even if you have an alarm, by the time you get to your bike, they'll be long gone.

Your insurance company meant that you need an (approved) alarm system - Scorpio, gorilla, whatever else is on their list, but as people mentioned, nothing will stop those as$hats - unless you have a proper anchor drilled into concrete and one of those $200 chains, maybe with 'boomerang' type tracking on top.

Whatever's the cheapest approved anti-theft measure. If you actually wanna reduce the amount of theft, it might not be a bad idea to intimidate the security staff. They're the ones who scope out the targets and notify the thieves when there's a good one out there. They also open the garage doors for them. I do not recommend intimidation with threats of physical harm as that is illegal in this country, but finding a legal way to get your point across will go a long way to keeping you riding instead of making insurance claims

Someone here had a good idea the other day about buying an old van to park in your spot and put your bike in it. OR If you already have a car chain your bike to it. at the hitch etc etc etc

i don't understand people who live in a condo and have no security measures at all in place, but then again urs is a 89, doubt many people are after that particular bike.

i live in a house and still chain my bike up every time im home

When people are stealing canadian tire bicycles, why would matter if my bike was 1989 or 2013... money is money

I put a U-Lock that I use on my bike through the rim/ forks. And moved it where the cctv cameras have a better view.

Had the same logic/ as a student didn't want to spend extra on insurance.

your average squid isn't dumping a 1989 fzr doing wheelies and then needing parts for their bike. they're dumping super sports suchs as gsxrs, cbrs, zx6r etc....

two dudes smoking in a minivan in a parking space in an underground parking garage (that wasn't their's?)
yeah, i'd say that's pretty suspicious.

when you spoke to them, did they say that they lived there? did you ask them what they were doing there? did you get their plate number?

CHAIN your bike to a ground anchor or wrap the chain around a concrete pillar.

Use an ALMAX type chain.

Until you get it, i'd move the bike to somewhere more secure.

...and people will steal anything if they thing they can get a buck for it.

Thieves aren't clairvoyant. They may have been cruising garages, noticed a sporty looking bike and pulled in to see if it was valuable. After realizing it was an old Yamaha, it was time for a smoke break.

My bike was stolen just over a week ago... Bought a video surveillance system a few days ago to install and I'm gonna put an alarm on the next bike I get.

I had a Scorpio i900 installed on my daytona 675, they still took it. I would have taken their plate # down just in case. If they want to take it their going to take it dose not matter what you chain it to. Bers option is out of sight out of mind . . . Get a old cube van and park it inside ;P
