Except a vulcan is Kawi.. so I guess it's the KawiTick? Actually I hear it on my 500 LTD as well from time to time, but only if the engine is dead cold. Goes away as she heats up and the oil gets spread around.
Congratulations on your new ride! I've had my eye on the Vulcan 900 (Like Skitta mentioned), so any encouragement would be really appreciated. Don't want to hijack this thread, though.
The Vulcan is a great ride. There are a lot of pluses. PM if you want details.
However, the only one disadvantage is top speed on the highway. Mine tops out around 120km. Moving beyond 120 and the bike starts to vibrate and it's almost dangerous above 135km. So if you get caught in the fast lane of a 400 series highway doing 120km and there is the a faster vehicle coming up from behind and there is a vehicle to the right around 120 also....
well, things can get a little hairy.
But really, with a little situational awareness and fore thought, anyone can adjust knowing this. I would recommend this bike to anyone and everyone. Just know the speed issue and your own riding style.
Major any idea what's causing that? My 500 LTD holds true well past 120 as some sports bikes have experienced on a wicked fun group ride. Well, that is on the straights it holds true past 120... Corners I blame that really soft front end.

Enjoy the new Vulcan! I just went from a GSXR 1000 to a Yamaha Raider 1900. Love the gixxers just can't keep the speed down!! So far I'm loving the Raider, lots of power and good handling for a big pig!
I also found the Vulcan 900 would be an easy ride up to 120, but getting up around 130 the vibrations got much worse. It doesn't help that the stock saddle really sucks.
One thing also to bear in mind - I did a lot of reading up on the Vulcan Forums, and apparently the speedo tends to over-report your speed by about 9%, so when your speedo says you're going 120, you might actually just be going closer to 110.

That's strange, I read this post on my phone while I was in Mississauga today...so I tested it...riding back to Ajax, I was cruising on the 401 at 120. Traffic was pretty heavy but when I had my oppertunity i brought her up to 140 (mimic a long passing manouver)...no issues, no vibration, I didn't downshift, it just pulled. Certaily not as fast as my VFR but it pulled nicely and confidently. I pushed it further as far as 150 but traffic was to heavy so I eased off. Still no issues at that speed, both with acceleration or vibration. I didn't downshift or anything, it just pulled up from 120 in top gear.
Do you have a windshield or other attachments (side bags, etc?) I know on my VFR the top box gave it quite a bit of turbulance, especially when behind a big truck...that could account for vibrations but I don't know why your bike would top off at 120, unless it has a big windshield maybe..
Just another update on the move from a VFR to the Vulcan 900. I have really fallen in love with this bike on so many levels. It has so much more character than my previou bikes...I mean it's just a nice bike to look at and admire, and it meets my needs for communting, touring...just every day riding. It's easier for me to manouver (i'm short but never let that stop me from riding bigger bikes). I'm even looking forward to wearing a half helmet on hot days for the convenience of easily putting it on and off, I wear glasses and they are a pane with full face or modular helmets.
I rode it accross the 401 today and even the wind blast didn't bother me (no windshield)....it just felt 'right!'. I'm sure I will get a windshield and bags for longer trips though. Also the thing that worried me most, the feet forward riding position has become the thing that I love most - no more cramped legs!
Sure it doesn't have the power and handling of an SS or ST, but it has more than enough for Ontario roads...I won't have to worry about losing my license going 50 over on this thing! Oh and as far as handling, once I learned I can lean in corners without scraping the floorboards, I think I will have as great a time on the Dragon as I would on my VFR on this thing - not that I'm trying to compare. I'm glad I made this move. Also the bike has so much more character than my previous bikes....I mean they were all great bikes (I would enjoy anything on two wheels)...but I didn't really stop to admire them on the driveway
I completed th transformation today by picking up a 'beanie' style helmet at Royal Distributing in Whitby. I grabbed a GMax that came with a drop down sunscreen and removable neck curtain. There are probably better deals or beanies out there but the technology seems much simpler than full face helmets, so I went with it. Much cheaper than any full face of any quality! First ride and it felt 'right'. Glasses didn't bug me and I didn't have to squeeze them on and off to get the helmet on or off. Much louder than a full face but I wasn't plagued with internal wind noise or helmet buffeting. Will certainly ride with earplugs which I always did with my full face anyway...
Just sharing my experiences for others who want to switch from ST to cruiser style!
The stock speedo is off by 10km/h pretty much across the board. I can do 120 gps speed all day on the highway and have no issues at 140 either. These bikes do well on the highway, but after ~110 they start to fall a little flat. However they are only 48hp. Getting to 120 from a stop is where this bike shines

Rode with a friend today, him on a Harley CVO....I asked him to get up to 80 km/h and lock his speed with the cruise control.....I matched his pace and I was doing 80. I don't think my bike has this issue, though I don't know if anything was done to correct it....

What is your year tire size? is it the stock 180/70 or has the PO changed it to either the 200/70 or the 170/80? Either of these will make the speedo read pretty much accurately. Or if they changed out the stock drive pulley(s) with the aftermarket overdrive pulley(s) that also corrects the speedo.
Or the Harley could also be off as are a lot of motorcycles. The best way to find out is with a GPS. First time i had my 9 or the highway I was doing what i thought was 120, but was not passing many people, Not even the school buses.
hey OP was that you yesterday (sunday) on the 401 east bound riding through scarborough towards pickering 2 up with a lady on the back. it was around 6 pm
