What chain would you recommend?

My chain is probably done, it's slapping into the clutch cable plate cover. If I tighten it enough that it stops slapping it (and making scary noises) the chain is on way too tight for certain segments of the chain.

Anyone got recommendations for chains? OEM, aftermarket, pink colored ones? I was trying to find the thread I made on this a while back, couldn't find it -_-

did or rk. look up the recommended size and go from there. They have chains rated for all sorts of retarded amounts of power but after all you're riding a gs500. As long as its the right size and you MAINTAIN it you'll be good.

BTW change the sprockets at the same time like the poster above me said

Yep, got the sprockets. need the chain now.

DID makes nice chains, but those are pricey. What's the mileage on your GS? Have you checked condition of your sprockets? May want to swap the sprockets while you're there.

I would go with the same strength chain (525 if I remember), but from a good manufacturer.

wow wtf, these are cheaper than OEM. Thank you. Found a 40 buck one but......I dont trust it lol too cheap.

And are you sure about the 525? Gonna try to find a pdf version of the owners manual and hope it says there.

Okay manual says DID 520VM 110L.

If I were to buy a 120L, can I just cut off the links? (Btw I have no idea wtf I am doing or saying so don't judge please! lol)

EDIT: How are EK chains? Was calling cycleworldsuperstore to see if they had what you pointed out in stock, but they don't and suggested EK chains.

I've always liked D.I.D and EK. For your bike, as long as its a major brand, it doesnt really matter which model you get....

Okayy, thanks, will go pick up the EK chain later.

As said earlier go with did or ek, you can't go wrong. Make damn sure that your sprockets are the same size as the chain ex. if the sprockets are for a 525 chain get a 525 chain and likewise if they're for a 520. Stick with o ring for cost, x ring isn't necessary.

As long as you do basic maintenance the chain should outlast the bike assuming you sell it within a few years. You're going to need a rivoting tool as well. That's goingto run you around $80. Make sure you know how to use it or you'll be throwing away money.

If you ask nice enough and offer a couple of bucks you can probably get someone to rivot it for you and save some cash.

99% sure it's 520 because the sprockets I bought are OEM for the GS500F.

I'd recommend not getting a gold chain.

It's annoying having to clean it all the time.

...and when you don't clean it, it looks like ***.

lol

I bought a limited edition gsxr from a guy and didn't know it had a blue chain until i scrubbed it lol

clean your chains people, quit being lazy

dupont teflon chainsaver/multiuse is only 6 bucks a can, come from a ride wipe it off and spray some new **** on there and your chain will outlast you

+1 For Dupont Multiuse.

I've been hearing about the chain saver. Apparently it's the best out there.

EK ZZZ.
World's strongest chain, and lighter than all of their competitors.
The ZZZ in 530 size is the chain that the 500+ turbo Hayabusa guys trust.
I put one on my GSXR1000 and only ever had to adjust it twice in three yrs, and even then it was just a small adjustment.
The pre-stretched ZST (zero stretch tech) isn't just a gimmick. It's the real deal. I used to run Tsubaki and RK, then I had two DID ERV chains go bad on me in a pretty short time, so I started looking at other brands, which led me to EK.
And they come in cool colours. The gold and silver isn't just shiny, it's metalflake pearlescent.
My KTM now has one, and my Fireblade racebike too.

The chain saver stuff is good....the Teflon dry lube multiuse stuff (blue can) has changed formula. It's no longer the dry wax one and isn't recommended for chains any more.

My DID ERV3 chains (three of them) are all standing up to 170+ wheel horsepower for the last two years - three in the case of the one. That being said, I did tear a ERV2 in half.

Even got it on film.

how long should chains last? I have my original oem chain still on and have been (seriously) considering changing it. I've got 15000 km's since new and have always lubed it every 600 km's. I've recently noticed some rust and BIG time tight spots on the chain. When I'm talking big time, I mean from a nice 1" slack to over 3" of slack at the tight point (maybe I should stop doing wheelie's!).

Thanks for the advice

How long should a chain last? it depends.. what kind of bike? how are you riding it? Did you clean and then lube or just lube? I had friends that oiled their chain ever other ride and had their chains wear out far more quickly than mine because the oil attracted dirt and grit on to the chain. The oem chain on my last R1 lasted me over 40k km and I changed it only because I wanted to convert to a 520 and make a gearing change. No rust or kinks when I pulled it off.
